Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 16/06/2021

Wednesday

Weather

A toasty warm day, which would probably be the hottest of the year so far, if the morning sunshine and light breezes were to last right through the afternoon. However, the temperature-rise will probably be stopped at 20°C as cloud starts to thicken up and the N’ly breeze increases, ahead of this evening’s and tonight’s showers. It will be a bit hit and miss, when these showers will clip us gently and when they will clobber us with a proper deluge. However, in the end, we should receive at least 10-15mm of rain (possibly double that if you include the overspill into Thursday morning). Furthermore, I’ll be very surprised if we aren’t treated to a few rumbles of thunder and flashes of lightning.

Surf and the Water

Clean 2 foot surf in the morning, picking up to 3 or perhaps 4 feet by late evening. Lovely smooth water for swimming and other activities, especially down on the south coast in the afternoon. Medium-sized tidal movements, with high water at 11am and low water at 5:10pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Thursday should be mostly cloudy with rain in the morning but dry in the afternoon. Hopefully some sunny spells for a time in the afternoon and evening, but we will probably see the return if heavy showers around dusk and then through the night into Friday. Some of these could be thundery, but it’s more likely that Normandy will be the focal point of that activity. Friday late afternoon and evening look likely to be dry and sunny, giving us a relatively fine start to the weekend. Things will certainly have cooled off a bit by then though, with the temperature climbing no higher than 17 or perhaps 18°C on either Thursday or Friday, and the N’ly wind becoming rather fresh and gusty (head to the south coast for the best of the warmth).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be 5-6 feet on Thursday, then 3-4 feet on Friday. The wind will be cross-shore there, so rather choppy. However there could be some smaller but pristine clean waves down on the south coast. And you should also head south if you’re looking for really smooth conditions for swimming or kayaking etc. Medium-small tidal movements, with lows around breakfast time and highs around lunchtime.

Weather

And the weather will continue to seesaw as the wind falls light and variable on Saturday, allowing the sunshine to cook us up to 19 or 20°C, before another wave of potentially thundery showers sweeps northwards across the Channel in the evening and night. Sunday then, with an increasing SSW’ly breeze, will bring a mostly sunny day (max temp 20-21°C) followed by a rather cloudy night, possibly with the odd light shower.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will generally be 2 feet and clean but they should pick up to 3-4 feet on Sunday afternoon or evening. Good swimming/paddle-boarding conditions all around the island on Saturday, but not so good on the south coast on Sunday. Medium-small tidal movements, with lows around breakfast time and highs in the mid-afternoons.

Next Week

Weather

W’ly or SW’ly winds will maintain an Atlantic influence throughout the week, giving us a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine along with temperatures that are probably a degree or two below the June average. Rainfall will be minimal, but there is bound to be the odd light shower or perhaps a spell of drizzle at some point. Town will always be the warmest area, closely followed by other sheltered eastern spots like Fermain.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be fairly big and clean in the first half of the week; 5-6 feet dropping off to 3-4 feet. Then the second half of the week is looking very small and sloppy but probably still rideable for keen young learners. As for swimming and other smooth-water activity, the east-coast will always be the best but there will also be some nice little nooks in the north and the west. The tidal range will increase each day, with a high of about 8m on Monday, picking up to over 9m by Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
