Saturday
Weather
Well, although we got pretty wet at times, the more eastern islands (Jersey Sark and Alderney) all received a lot more rain than Guernsey over the last couple of days. Through Saturday afternoon and evening, further heavy showers will break out, perhaps with thunder, and we are bound to see the same pattern again… Normandy being the focal point and Guernsey, as the most western island, receiving the smallest portion of that rainfall. For the best of the sunshine, the morning will be the best time to head out, but there might also be some bright intervals during the afternoon. The top temperature 16°C and the breeze just a force 3 ENE’ly.
Surf and the Water
Beautifully clean surf at the usual west-coast venues. However, with wave heights of only 2 feet, you would probably have to be a very small person to get excited about it. As for other activities, the wind-direction will really favour the west coast during the afternoon. However, during the morning the wind will be so light that the water should be lovely and smooth all around the island. Medium-small tidal movements, with a high of roughly 7.4m at 2:10pm.
Sunday
Weather
The heavy showers should have all cleared off overnight, leaving us rather cloudy but dry through the morning and afternoon. Then during the evening, we are going to have bit of a repeat of Saturday with an increasing frequency of showers. However, this time they probably won’t be so heavy. The top temperature 18°C with a light SE’ly breeze.
Surf and the Water
More super-clean west-coast surf, but this time it will pick up to 3 feet by the time we hit high tide in the mid-afternoon (roughly 7.6m). If you’re simply heading for a swim then the west coast will also be great for that (and so will the north coast).
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Monday (Mid-Summer’s Day) looks just as showery as the weekend just before it. Once again, with a rumble of thunder not being out of the question. The wind will start the day as a moderate SE’ly and finish off as a slightly cooler NE’ly. Then mixed blessings on Tuesday… most likely drier but still rather cloudy and feeling distinctly chilly in the fresh force 5 N’ly wind. Max temps, probably 17°C on Monday and just 16°C on Tuesday.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast waves will be 3-4 feet and clean on Monday, then 2 feet and messy on Tuesday. If you’re swimming or paddle-boarding on Monday then conditions will be best in the west. Then on Tuesday, it’s definitely going to be a south-coast day. Bigger tidal movements than the previous days, with lows in the late mornings highs in the late afternoons… 8m on Monday, 8.4m on Tuesday.
The rest of Next Week
Weather
The finer half of the week, with high pressure pushing in from Biscay to France. All three days dry and sunny, but the different positions of the high centre determining the direction of the wind-flow and in-turn the max temperature for each day. Wednesday probably the coolest day, with a N’ly airflow keeping us fairly close to the temperature of the sea around us (sea temp 15°C, most likely air temp 17°C). Thursday will probably be a degree or two warmer, as the breeze backs to a gentle W’ly. As for Friday, the final (and therefore the least certain day of this forecast), possibly changing to an E airflow, jumping the temperature right up to the low or mid-twenties.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast waves will only be 1-2 feet at best (possibly even flat at times). However, they will be much cleaner than on Tuesday, especially by the time we get to Friday. The tidal range will increase each day, with a high of about 8.8m on Wednesday evening, picking up to over 9.3m on Friday evening.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
