Thursday
Weather
Another cloudy and misty start to the day, but with the sunshine just managing to burn through by late morning and then blaze a bit brighter throughout the afternoon. The breeze will be a light force 3 WSW’ly for the majority of the day, meaning that Western parts of the island will on just get to 18°C but Town should easily climb to 19 or 20°C.
Surf and the Water
Another day of near-flat surf on the west coast, but lovely swimming conditions on the east coast (and pretty nice on the north coast during the morning). High water will be just 7.4m soon after midday. Low water at breakfast time and dinner time.
Friday
Weather
There will still be some areas of mist and fog rattling around the Channel, so windward coasts could be affected by this from time to time (wind light force 2 NW’ly). However, the overall story is one of sunshine through the morning and cloudier skies during the afternoon and evening (temperatures about a degree higher than on Thursday). No rain until sometime after dusk, and then it will probably move through fairly swiftly but leave some puddles on the ground for Saturday morning.
Surf and the Water
Another day of near-flat surf on the west coast, but lovely swimming conditions all day in all bays. The smooth water obviously very good for kayaking and paddle-boarding too. High water will be just 7.1m at 1:10pm. Low water at breakfast time and dinner time.
The Weekend
Weather
Partly cloudy on Saturday, but the showers will be so few and far-between that we would be fairly unlucky to catch one. Furthermore the wind will be so light and variable that the sunny intervals will feel really warm and pleasant (max temperature 19 or 20°C). Not so great on Sunday though, with only a brief bit of sunshine around lunch time, and the rest of the day dominated by cloudy skies and showery rain. Furthermore, the wind will be stronger on Sunday (force 4 SW’ly) so it’s definitely going to feel a bit cooler too.
Surf and the Water
Saturday evening should see the arrival of a clean 1-2 foot swell, which will then get slight bigger but also slightly choppier on Sunday. Swimming conditions will be lovely in all parts on Saturday, but Sunday’s best conditions will be reserved for the east and north coasts (and just a few little nooks along the west coast).
Next Week
Weather
With some very rain-heavy tropical storms off the east coast of America and a jet-stream that is perfectly positioned to carry that rather exotic air across the Atlantic towards Biscay and Southwest Britain, it looks set to be a week of changeable weather, with one thundery low pressure system after another, dropping some proper deluges over some areas (probably Wales), whilst the Channel Islands receive some more modest but still significant soakings. These spells of rain or showers will be punctuated by much longer dry spells though, so we should still reach respectable max temperatures on most days (high teens or low twenties) and the week as a whole should still be rich in outdoor activity. The timings of the wet spells are entirely uncertain at the moment, and my confidence the forecast details is likely to remain quite low throughout the period. Winds directions will generally vary between SE’ly and WNW’ly as weather fronts come and go; mostly moderate force 4 but occasionally picking up to fresh force 5.
Surf and the Water
Plenty of surf all week, varying in quality around the whims of the wind, but sometimes really clean and always in the range of 3-5 feet. A small-sized tidal range at the beginning of the week (early afternoon highs of around 7m), gradually picking up to a medium-sized tidal range by Friday (breakfast and dinner time highs of around 8m).
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
