Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 03/07/2021

Saturday

Weather

Apart from some lingering rain early morning, we are looking at an otherwise dry day, with temperatures peaking at 19 or 20°C in most parts and maybe a degree higher in Town (winds force 3-4 SSW’ly). The best of the sunshine will probably be late morning and early afternoon. After that, cloud will steadily increase, ahead of a very wet night.

Surf and the Water

The surf will most likely be flat until late afternoon or evening, when it picks up to a rideable 1 foot, maybe even 2 feet if we are lucky. As for the swimming conditions, not so great on the south coast, but pretty good on the west coast and really nice on the north and the east. Low water at breakfast time and dusk, high water just 7m at 2:10pm.

Sunday

Weather

Very similar to Saturday, in terms of the rain clearing off quite early in the morning and the sunshine being most plentiful through the middle part of the day. It will be a degree or two cooler in all areas though, thanks to a force 4-5 WSW’ly wind.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 1-2 feet and really clean in the morning, then it will pick up to 2-3 feet in the afternoon but unfortunately become a bit choppy. As for the swimming conditions… North and west coast for the best of it in the morning, then it’s over to the east in the afternoon and evening. Low water at breakfast time and dusk, high water just 7m at 3:10pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

A vigorous low-pressure system (the weather chart looks more typical of winter) will sweep northeastwards across the UK during the overnight period. Through Monday we will be on the forward side of this weather-system, and the anticlockwise circulation means that we will be drawing very warm and wet air up from the south. Temperatures won’t climb any higher than the high teens, because the sunshine won’t manage to get a look-in (except perhaps at dawn around dusk), but the inherent warmth of the air means that it can hold a lot of water, so we will probably see rainfall totals of at least 10-15mm from a combination of long drizzly spells and brief heavy downpours. Moving on to Tuesday, the air will be drawn in from the WSW. This will be cooler and drier, so the showers will be very isolated, possibly missing us altogether and allowing sunshine really to dominate the day. It is going to be very windy though (probably strong force 6), so that sunshine isn’t going feel too toasty, unless you head to a really sheltered eastern spot like Fermain.

Surf and the Water

Really clean 3-4 foot surf on Monday, followed by choppy 6 foot surf on Tuesday. Furthermore the windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be pretty fantastic too, especially on Tuesday. The tidal range will remain on the small side, with lows moving into the late mornings and highs into the late afternoons.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

Sunshine and showers on Wednesday, some of those showers will probably be heavy and blustery. Then a full day of sunshine on Thursday, but with a moderate W’ly wind preventing the island from getting particularly warm (except in Town and other sheltered eastern areas). Moving on to Friday, the wind will probably fall light and variable, allowing the hazy sunshine to feel really pleasant and relatively warm. Friday currently looks like the only day of the week when the temperature might just scrape the 20°C mark. Don’t be disappointed though, because early indications suggest that the following week might well be quite a lot warmer.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will calm down a bit from the previous day, but it should still be very rideable…likely biggest and cleanest on Wednesday and Friday, with Thursday being a good day to just go swimming on the east coast instead. A medium sized tidal range, with lows around lunchtime and highs around dinner time.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
