Monday
Weather
The morning will be dry and mostly dry and relatively bright, so be sure to make the most of that time, because the afternoon and evening are set to become very wet and then the night time extremely windy. The wind detail should be roughly as follows; a light SSW’ly in the morning, picking up to a moderate to fresh SSE’ly in the afternoon, followed by a very strong to gale force SSW’ly overnight (probably best to drop the parasols and pack away your sun-loungers well in advance, to avoid both the rain and the wind).
Surf and the Water
Super clean 2 foot surf, hopefully picking up to 3 feet in the afternoon or evening. Low water will be about 3.4m at 10am. High water will be about 7.2m at 4:10pm.
Tuesday
Weather
The overnight gales will have slightly subsided to a force 6-7 WSW’ly by morning. Then, through the afternoon, the wind will ease further to force 4-5 (maybe even force 3 by evening). All the while, the shower risk steadily reducing and the sunshine steadily increasing. Never feeling too toasty though, with the temperature only peaking around 17°C, much the same as soggy Monday.
Surf and the Water
Seriously chunky and choppy surf in the morning, gradually tidying up as the day progresses. Probable wave-heights 10 feet gradually dropping off to 6 feet. Low water will be about 3.3m at 10:50am. High water will be about 7.5m at 5pm.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
The trend through these three days will be one of gradual settling and warming. Wednesday partly sunny and probably peppered with the odd sharp shower, Thursday likely dry with a full dose of dazzling sunshine, then Friday equally dry but with the sunshine more hazy. The WSW’ly wind gradually easing all the while; force 4-5 on Wednesday, force 3-4 on Thursday then force 2-3 on Friday. The most likely max temperatures; 18°C, 19°C and 20°C respectively (always warmest in Town).
Surf and the Water
The swimming will be lovely on the east coast every day, and it will gradually become more pleasant on the other coasts too, as the WSW’ly wind becomes lighter. As for the west-coast surf; Wednesday should be 3-4 feet and choppy (not brilliant but probably the only semi-decent day of the three for shortboarders); Thursday will drop off to about 2 feet and remain rather choppy; Friday should be quite clean but the waves will only really be big enough for young kids who are learning.
The Weekend
Weather
The high pressure responsible for the settling trend of the previous days, will probably nudge northwards to Scotland, as a thundery low-pressure system develops over the nearby hot continent. We should see a warm E’ly airflow through Saturday followed by a slight cooler N’ly on Sunday. Both days (especially Saturday) are likely to be a good few degrees warmer than the previous days. However, the precise max temps will depend very much on how much cloud and how many showers spill over from France. We’re just going to have to see how the forecast story evolves a little closer to the time.
Surf and the Water
It’s very uncertain whether we will have any west-coast surf or not, but if we are treated to some 1-2 foot swell from any distant storms, then the waves should be beautifully clean on Saturday. As for the swimming, the west-coast should also be best for that on Saturday, and then the south coast should be best on Sunday (especially early afternoon for the low spring tide).
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
