Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 10/07/2021

Saturday

Weather

Cloudy and wet all morning, then gradually becoming dry and bright through the afternoon. All this means that the temperature will only rise to a max of 17-18°C, so not exactly toasty, but still very comfortable thanks to the lack of wind. The breeze will be SE’ly in the morning and NW’ly in the afternoon, but it will never blow harder than 5-10mph, so all parts of the island will be really good for outdoor activity (especially during the dry time).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be almost flat through the morning, but it should hopefully pick up to a clean 1-2 feet in the late afternoon and evening. Fab conditions for all other water-sports all around the islands (apart from windsurfing and kite-surfing of course). Low water will be about 2.3m at 1:50pm then high water will be 8.6m at 7:50pm.

Sunday

Weather

Another day of mostly cloudy skies, but this time the brightest skies will be in the morning and the bulk of the wetness will come towards the evening and overnight. The temperature should be one or two degrees higher than on Saturday, as gentle SE’ly breezes waft warm French air in our direction. Although it won’t be a particularly dazzling day, it is looking generally good day for outdoor activities again, especially along the west and north coasts.

Surf and the Water

The super-clean west-coast surf should be 1-2 feet through the morning, then maybe pick up to a 2-3 feet in the late afternoon and evening. Good conditions for most other water-sports all around the islands, but the west and north coasts will probably be best of all. Low water will be about 2.2m at 2:30pm. High water will be at 8:20am and 8:30pm (8.4m and 8.7m respectively).

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

Sunday night’s showery conditions will probably continue to come and go through Monday, alternating with long spells of sunshine. Then Tuesday and Wednesday should be fully dry and sunny. The one thing that these three days really have in common is a fairly brisk NW’ly wind. This wind will pick up through Monday, then maintain its strength through the majority of Tuesday and Wednesday, before veering to a due N’ly on Wednesday evening/night. It’s not the warmest of wind directions, due to the cool Channel waters being immediately upwind. However, if you head down to the sheltered south or east coast bays then you should still find that it’s plenty warm enough to strut around in your skimpiest outfits. And if that’s not really your thing, then I can at least say that Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s conditions will be particularly awesome for drying multiple laundry loads.

Surf and the Water

As with the sunbathing, the best water-bathing conditions will also be in the sheltered south and east coast bays. If you are a windsurfer or a kite-surfer then you should definitely make the most of this time (especially Tuesday). If you’re a surfer, then I’m sure you would like your waves to be much less choppy, but it will still be very rideable on the west-coast with lots of lumpy 3-5 feet waves to play around with. The high tides will be in the mid-mornings and low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

With a force 3-4 NNE’ly breeze through these days, the air will still be coming off relatively cool Channel waters. However, slightly further upwind is Southeast England, and the temperature will be climbing into the mid-twenties every day there, so we should at least import a little bit of that heat, giving us max temps of around 20-21°C. Once again, the south coast will be a particularly fabulous place to make the most of that heat.

Surf and the Water

The west coast surf will probably be slightly cleaner, but it’s also going to be quite a lot smaller, so it’s really not looking too special. However, the south-coast swimming conditions are looking absolutely luuuurvly. High tides in the late mornings, low tides in the late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
