Guernsey Weather Fox

7+da Forecast. Starting Saturday 17/07/2021

Saturday

Weather

Sunny all day (max temp 21°C in most parts, perhaps a bit higher on the south coast), with a very high UV index (8), so burn-time will be quick between 10am and 4pm. The NE’ly wind will be a tad perkier than on Friday, getting up to force 4 by mid-morning and staying that strong for most of the day. This means that the south coast will really be your most gorgeously sheltered area, but there will also be corners of the west-coast bays that are shielded by the northern promontories. As for the overnight period… super clear skies, so look out for a maybe green-flash sunset, perhaps some excellent stargazing (just small waxing moon at the mo) and maybe some noctilucent cloud if you look northwards shortly before dawn.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be about 1 foot at best, so maybe good for the very young kids, but it will really be a day for swimming and other forms of fun on the water. The smoothest water will generally be along the south coast. High tide will be around lunchtime. Low tides around breakfast and dinner times.

Sunday

Weather

An almost identical day and night to those of Saturday. However, the temperature will creep up by a couple of degrees, as we import some second-hand heat from southeast England.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will either be just as tiny as on Saturday or quite possibly flat. The conditions for swimming and paddle-boarding will be best of all on the south coast again, but also pretty good at the northern ends of the west-coast bays. Once again, high tide will be around lunchtime. Low tides around breakfast and dinner times.

Monday to Thursday

Weather

The temperature should rise to a max of 25-27°C on Monday and fall to min of 15-17°C on Monday night, and then this will likely be a repeating pattern for the next three days. The only difference between one toasty day and the next, will be a subtle shift of the breeze to a due E’ly direction and the steady introduction of haze, both at low levels (thanks to dry continental air) and high in the sky (thanks to increasing amounts of wispy cirrus cloud, coming from a developing low-pressure system in the nearby Atlantic).

Surf and the Water

Maybe the odd one-foot wave for kiddies on Monday, but no surf expected through the next three days. However, the west coast will still be the prime location to head, as this is where it will be warmest and smoothest for swimming. The tidal range will be medium-sized with lows in the mornings and highs in the afternoons.

Friday to Sunday

Still very warm, but now feeling really muggy. Cloudier skies on the whole, but still plenty of long sunny spells. These days will certainly not be as straight-forward as the previous ten or so, because there will now be plenty of showers wandering across the Channel (possibly thundery) and also the odd bank of sea-fog. The precise detail should become slightly more certain as the time approaches.

Surf and the Water

The west coast surf will probably be 2 feet and really clean, thanks to a breeze that will start off SE’ly and gradually veer SW’ly. Big tides, with lows at lunchtime and highs around breakfast and dinner times.

The next forecast update will be on Monday…
