Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 26/07/2021

The Week in Summary

It’s one of those weeks when every day is looking virtually the same as the last. Hold on a minute, that’s what we had last week! However, this week’s monotonous story is much less exciting I’m afraid... Temperatures right back down to the seasonal average (occasionally slightly below). Sunshine and showers, varying in proportion from day to day. Winds always WSW’ly, just varying between light F3 at their gentlest and fresh F5 and their strongest.

Monday

Weather

After the morning mist clears, this should be one of the better days, due to it being relatively heavy on the sunshine but light on the wind and the showers. Those showers being most likely in the late evening and overnight (not very heavy, rather more drizzly and misty). Max temp 19°C in most parts, 20-21°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

Flat surf. As for the swimming, the east coast will always be the smoothest. However, if you are keen to swim at a beach on one of the other coasts, then this could be one of your best days to do it, due to the winds being lightest. The tidal range will be at its biggest on this day, due to the recent full moon, with highs of 9.1m at 9:!0am and 9.4m at 9:20pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Both days a degree cooler than Monday; the reason on Tuesday being cloudier skies and more frequent showers (mainly in the morning); the reason on Wednesday being slightly stronger winds.

Surf and the Water

Very small west-coast surf, but the onshore chop might just be rideable by the end of Wednesday. The smoothest swimming conditions will be out east again, but sheltered corners of the western and northern bays will also be nice at times. Especially around the mid-morning high tides.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The fresh force 5 WSW’ly wind will continue, but we will probably see much sunnier skies and the showers will be very few and far between, possibly missing the islands altogether. To feel warmest, it will definitely be necessary to shelter yourself from the wind, so the prime places to go will be around Town and Fermain, the temperature peaking at 19 or 20°C there, whilst most other places struggle to get past 18°C.

Surf and the Water

No change from Wednesday, regarding the advice for swimming. There should be some rideable slop for the most desperate west-coast surfers, but the kite-surfers and windsurfers will really have the lions’ share of the excitement. Tidal range much smaller by this time, with late morning highs of slightly over 8m on Thursday and slightly under 8m on Friday.

The Weekend

Weather

It’s a long way off, so confidence is typically low. However, it looks as though the low pressure system which has been rather settled over Scotland this week, will finally up sticks and sail away to Norway. This means that the wind will probably shift to a gentler NW’ly, bringing inherently cooler air. However, that air would likely be drier, meaning that the excellent visibility and the abundance of sunshine could still make it feel appropriately gorgeous for summer.

Surf and the Water

The west coast surf should still be choppy but rideable, and the swimming conditions should become nice and smooth on the south coast as well as the east. Small tidal range, with lunchtime highs of around 7m.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
