Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 09/08/2021

Monday

Weather

Sunday night’s heavy showers might well linger until breakfast time. However, the weather will then start to dramatically improve, nudging the temperature up to a max of 19-20°C. Unfortunately however, it will be another day before we lose the force 4-5 WSW’ly wind, so you will need to head into Town or another sheltered nook like Fermain to really make the most of that temperature. Cloudy skies will return overnight, possibly thick enough to bring rain at times, but this will just be a momentary relapse rather than a downward trend.

Surf and the Water

The last good day for windsurfing and kitesurfing. As for the west-coast waves, they will be about 4 feet and not too shabby. The tidal range fairly large though, with highs of 8.m at 8am and 8.9m at 8:20pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

The sunshine will become plentiful by late morning, after we lose the cloud and any rain that developed on Monday night. The really noticeable improvement will be the reduction in wind to a light force 2-3 W’ly on Tuesday and then a light force 1-2 S’ly on Wednesday. This is going to allow the max temperature to increase by at least a degree per day. However, it will probably feel an even greater increase than that, with all parts of the island feeling positively balmy compared to the dismal weekend that we’ve just had.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be 2-3 feet and clean (especially clean on Wednesday). The swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions look increasingly smooth on all coasts. However, big tides mean stronger currents, so an extra bit of forethought is advisable. Those tides generally about 8.8m high around breakfast-time and about 9.1m high around dusk.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The temperature will stay roughly the same through the latter part of the week, with daily maxima of 21-23°C, depending on your precise location. The breeze will be a force 2-3 SW’ly on Thursday and then a force 3-4 W’ly on Friday, meaning that there will be an increasing need to head east in order to find those highest temperatures. As for the weather. Still dry and partly sunny, with the best of that sunshine likely to come in the afternoons. Sun cream still required, despite being almost 2 months past the solstice. The UV index generally peaking at 6 or 7 during the middle parts of each day.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will remain 2-3 feet and clean on Thursday, then most likely increase to a slightly choppier 4-5 feet on Friday. The tidal range remaining on the large side, with late-morning highs and late afternoon lows.

The Weekend

Weather

The pressure pattern looks flabby, meaning that there is a lot of space between the isobars on the weather charts and the wind is expected to be light throughout. However, the direction of the wind will vary across the weekend, so it is hard to determine when we will be under the influence of the continental regime and when we will be under the influence of the Atlantic regime. However, in either case, rain or showers seem extremely unlikely and the debate is only really about how cloudy/sunny the skies will be. Daily max temps will most likely remain in the low twenties.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf looks set to be clean and reasonably chunky for the summer hols (3-4 feet), so it’s bound to be quite crowded at certain stages of the tide. Just remember, the quality of the session is measured by the size of the smiles, so don’t forget to share the love. Saturday’s high water will be about 8.3m at 11:10am, Sunday’s high water will be about 7.9m at midday.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
