Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 16/08/2021

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

The coolest days of the week (daily maxima 17-19°C, nightly minima 14-15°C). This is mainly due to the force 4 NW’ly wind, because we should stay dry and actually see quite a lot of sunshine. To really feel like its summer (not Autumn) then you will have to choose a nice sheltered area to hang out. Northern and western areas won’t be at all sheltered but there will be lots of good spots in the east and the south… Town, Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints Bay and Petit Bot should all feel lovely.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be a right old choppy mess but it will certainly be rideable if you fancy trying to find some diamonds in the rough. Monday should be 4 feet and Tuesday about 2 feet. The smoother water for swimmers will be at all the sheltered beaches that I mentioned in the weather section. Medium-small tidal movements, with highs of 7.5m at 12:50pm (Monday) and 7.2m at 2:10pm (Tuesday).

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

The breeze will be a slightly milder force 3 W’ly on Wednesday and then just a force 2 SW’ly on Thursday, so in some ways it’s going to feel more comfortable and pleasant. However, as a shallow low-pressure system cross the area, we are probably looking at two cloudy days, one of which (probably Thursday) is likely be a bit damp and drizzly at times. Temperatures should peak at about 19°C in most places and maybe hit 20°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be more or less flat, but the swimming conditions will be pretty good, especially at eastern spots like Bordeaux in the mid-late afternoons when the tide is high.

Friday and the Weekend

I’m afraid that this part of the forecast is so uncertain that you might as well toss a coin. Forecast models have been updating every day and the story for Friday and the Weekend just keeps flipping between very exciting and rather dismal. The former being hot and sunny like the Saturday we just enjoyed (or perhaps even hotter). The latter being a continuation of rain-bearing low-pressure systems and bog-standard average temperatures. At this stage there isn’t much point in committing to one story or the other, much better to keep an eye on the forecast and make sure you have a decent ‘plan B’ as well as a ‘plan A’.

Surf and the Water

With such an uncertain weather forecast, it stands to reason that the jury is also out regarding surf forecast. However, whether the waves are choppy or clean, I think it’s safe to say that they will be very small indeed, due to the fact that the Atlantic low-pressure systems all lock quite shallow and diffuse. The tidal range will be getting bigger, with lows around lunchtime and highs around breakfast-time and dinner-time.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
