Bank Holiday Weekend

Weather

Three days that are so similar that I have clumped them all together. Gentle NE’ly breezes will bring clear sky for the most part, as well as slightly warmer air than we finished the working week with. Max temps should be 19°C on Saturday, 20°C on Sunday and possibly just scraping 21°C on Monday. On all three days, the wind won’t be strong, but if you really want to be as warm as poss then you will want to filter it out. The best beaches for such shelter will be Petit Port and Saint’s Bay, closely followed by some west-coast nooks such as Les Amarreurs.

Surf and the Water

The sea temp is almost 18°C at the moment and the swimming will be particularly lovely along the south coast at low tide (dinner-time), and in the northern corners of the west-coast bays at high tide (late mornings). As for the surf… generally flat as a pancake but possibly 1 foot and rideable for kids and longboarders on Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

The NE’ly wind will strengthen to moderate force 4 on Tuesday and possibly touch fresh force 5 on Wednesday. As a result, the temperature will be a tad lower (probably not climbing any higher than 19°C) and it’s certainly going to feel quite a bit cooler over the previous days. Finding shelter will be even more important if you don’t intend to wear much more than swimwear. The south coast will bays will be the best by a long shot. However, with very small tides (high in the early afternoons) don’t expect to find much sand down there.

Surf and the Water

With absolute flatness in the surf department and generally too much wind for kayaking and SUP-riding, the main events will be swimming (south coast) and kite-surfing (the other coasts). Tiny tidal movements, with lows around breakfast time and highs in the mid-afternoons.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

As the high-pressure system over Northern Britain weakens, and a low-pressure system starts to develop mid-Atlantic, the moderate to fresh NE’ly breeze will probably be replaced by a gentle E’ly on Thursday and then a SE’ly on Friday. This should pull in some warmer air from France and hopefully increase the daily temperatures by a few degrees. Maybe cranking up as high as 22 or 23°C. That Atlantic low will also offer us the first chance of proper rainfall for almost two weeks, in the form of some late evening or overnight showers (possibly thundery).

Surf and the Water

There is definitely some surf potential, due to the development of this Atlantic low-pressure system. However, it will take some time for the waves to reach us, so we can probably expect flatness to reign supreme through Thursday, but there is a good chance of some top-quality small-medium sized waves on Friday. As for the swimming… no need to seek shelter down south anymore because the entire west coast should be in its prime. The tiny tidal movements continuing, with the lows slipping into the late mornings and the highs into the late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on BH Monday…
