Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Both days are set to be cloudier in the morning than the afternoon. The cloudiest moments might just squeeze out the lightest of showers, but you would barely be able to feel it, so it would be a gross over-reaction to unpeg the washing or to pack up your lawnmowers/paint-brushes etc and go running indoors. The most negative feature of the weather will probably be the wind. This will come from the same NE’ly direction as it has for over a week now, but it will be blowing a bit harder (moderate force 4, gradually increasing fresh force 5), so the temperature won’t climb very high (19°C at best) and it’s often going to feel rather chilly.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast waves will be pretty epic for surfing hamsters (if you know any). However, for the rest of us surf-addicts, the cold turkey continues. Great conditions for the island’s windsurfers and kite-surfers though. Tiny tidal movements, with lows of over 4m in the early mornings and highs of less than 7m in the early afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
These two days look much richer in sunshine, and there will be a slow relaxation of that annoying NE’ly wind… staying fresh force 5 through most of Thursday, then moderating to force 4 through Friday. As a result, the temperature trend will be upwards… 20°C for Thursday’s max and 21°C for Friday’s max. Friday evening definitely promises to be the finest moment since the bank-holiday weekend, so it’s currently looking like a big thumbs-up for barbecues and get-togethers.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will remain comatose for another couple of days, but the south-coast conditions will be ripe and juicy for swimming/coasteering. The tidal movements will be very small again, with lows in the mid-mornings and highs in the mid-afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
The wind will be a gentle E’ly on Saturday, which means that we can add some French heat to the sunshine, and temperatures ought to reach a rather lovely 22°C. Everywhere should feel warm, but the west coast will really be the cream of the crop. Don’t leave it too late to hit the beach though, because it is going to turn increasingly cloudy through the afternoon, ahead of some heavy (possibly thundery) overnight rain. This rain is likely to linger into Sunday morning, before clearing eastwards to leave things a little misty and hazy, with soft sunshine and a moderate S’ly breeze. Sunday’s max temperature probably a degree lower than Saturday’s, but still feeling generally warm and pleasant. As always, the far end of the forecast is a bit uncertain, especially when we expect to transition to a more unsettled weather regime, so be sure to keep checking the updates (especially if you are involved in the GraniteMan event… best of luck to you all).
Surf and the Water
Thus far, the Atlantic depressions have been very distant and shallow, whilst the tropical storms and hurricanes have preferred to go to America than the travel our direction. However, it’s all change this weekend, as a deep depression develops right on the doorstep, possibly giving some super-clean 2-3 feet waves as early as Saturday evening, but more definitely giving us a full day of clean 4+ feet waves on Sunday. The best swimming options look likely to be along the west coast on Saturday afternoon/evening, or at L’Ancresse on Sunday.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
