Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 02/09/2021

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Dry and with much less cloud than the past few day, although still the chance of some brief grey moments in the mornings. The other recent irritant has been the brisk ENE’ly wind. I’m afraid that is going to nag on a force 4 to 5 throughout Thursday. However, it does look as though it will simmer down a little bit on Friday, gradually easing back to light force 3. As a result of these gradual improvements, we should hit max temps of 20°C on Thursday, followed by 21°C on Friday.

Surf and the Water

A couple of flat days on the west coast, but Thursday looks like the last decent day for a windsurfing or kite-surfing session, then Friday evening is looking lovely for swimming and maybe for paddle-boarding. The tidal movements will be very small again, with lows in the mid-mornings and highs in the mid-afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

There has been quite a big change in this portion of the forecast. I guess it’s bad news if you are desperate for rain, but I think most people will consider it an improvement (especially the Granite Man contestants). Saturday still looks warm, perhaps even warmer than it did before, due to an increase in sunshine (22°C for Saturday’s max, with just a force 2 E’ly breeze). Then on to Saturday night; this is when we were expecting heavy rain, but now that is set to stay out in the Atlantic, leaving us with hazy sunshine and even more warmth on Sunday (23°C for Sunday’s max, with a force 3 SE’ly).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf forecast has taken a bit of a downhill dive I’m afraid. The weather-system that was due to send us some chunky waves, is now expected to develop a bit further to the south as a more diffuse feature. It looks as though some clean 1-foot waves is about all we can hope for. However, on the plus side, conditions will be divine for swimming, coasteering, kayaking and paddle-boarding. The tides will be high around dawn and dinner time (roughly 7.5m on Saturday and 8m on Sunday).

Next Week

Weather

Monday, Tuesday and probably Wednesday will all be hot, due to a SE’ly airflow streaming French heat over the islands. Not just French heat during the partly sunny mornings and afternoons, but also the chance of some French thunderstorms during the evenings and nights. Moving on to Thursday and Friday, things become very uncertain indeed, as shallow lows-pressure systems are likely to develop from the French thunderstorms. Depending on the behaviour of these small and rather erratic weather-systems, we might end up maintaining the hot SE’ly flow, or we might switch to a much more misty and murky SW’ly. Either way, I’m pretty sure that our thirsty gardens will have had at least a couple of well-earned drinks before we reach the weekend.

Surf and the Water

The surf should be really clean throughout the week, varying in size between 1 and 3 feet (possibly bigger by Friday, depending on the development and the track of Tropical Storm Larry). Big tides all week, with highs in the early mornings and late evenings (mostly over 9m).

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
