Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 04/09/2021

Saturday

Weather

Light force 2-3 ENE’ly breezes, will bring a rather cloudy morning followed by a beautifully sunny afternoon. The max temp should be about 21°C, which is a little bit down on previous expectations but it will still be the warmest day of the week so far, and it will still feel really pleasant and comfortable on the beaches and in the sea (sea temp around 18°C).

Surf and the Water

The 1-foot ripples could be surfable for children, but it’s really going to be a better day for swimming and paddle-boarding. Low water will be about 3.1m at 11:40am and high water about 7.8m at 5:50pm.

Sunday

Weather

Good news for the Granite Man event. Things are still looking calm and dry, but also a tiny bit cooler than previous expectations (max temp now expected to be 21-22°C rather than 23°C). That reduction in heat just being due to an increase in cloud. Most of that cloud very low. Misty and perhaps even foggy; wafting in and out, as the extremely light breeze changes direction rather randomly. Some hazy sunshine ought to burn through at times, and when it does so then it will feel just as balmy as Saturday.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf should still be rideable if you’re either a tiny person or you have a massive board. However, once again, it will be a much better day for swimming and paddle-boarding (watch out for fog-banks though). High water will be 8m around dawn and 8.4m around dinner time. Low water will be 2.5m at lunchtime.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Sunday’s low cloud and misty conditions will linger through much of Monday morning. However, a force 3 E’ly breeze should become established by Monday afternoon, and then increase to moderate force 4 on Tuesday. This will bring drier air and bright sunshine, taking the temperature up to 23°C on Monday afternoon and probably going all the way to 25°C on Tuesday.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will stay super-clean and very small; just 1 foot on Monday but maybe jacking up to 2 feet on Tuesday. The tidal range will carry on getting bigger, with highs around breakfast time and dinner time. By Tuesday evening, the tide will be as high as 9.3m.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

Three days of sunshine and showers. The sunshine tending to favour lunchtime and early afternoon, after we have burnt off the morning’s murkiness and before we inherit the next rash of French thunderstorms (sometimes still thundery, sometimes not). The wind never looks strong, only force 3 throughout, a hot SE’ly on Wednesday (max temp 24°C), followed by more of a humid S’ly to SW’ly on Thursday and Friday (max temps around 21°C).

Surf and the Water

The west coast should be the best area for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding etc. It should also play host to some super-clean 1-2 feet surf for the most part (but there’s a chance of a significant jump in size and power Friday, depending on the track and the development of Hurricane Larry). Big tidal movements, with highs of well over 9m in the early/mid mornings (and again after dusk) and with lows in mid-afternoons (great for Lihou trips).

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
