Saturday
Weather
One of the warmest days of the week, peaking at 20°C or maybe even 21°C. This is all due to a gentle SE’ly breeze, chasing away any early morning cloud and mist, and bringing dry French air and sunshine. As the day progresses however, the sunshine will turn hazy with thickening high cloud that will probably go on to give a few showers in the evening and overnight.
Surf and the Water
The 3 foot surf will be the cleanest of the clean. And the west-coast water will also be the smoothest for swimming (at the non-surfing beaches). High water will be about 8.7m at 9:50am and about low water will be 2m at 4pm.
Sunday
Weather
The wind will perk up to a moderate SSW’ly, which will continue to bring relatively warm air and hazy sunshine. However, the temperature is unlikely to exceed 19°C. If we see any showers then they are only really likely to be light and in the early morning and perhaps the evening. The really noteworthy rain will come in the middle of the night when a squally cold-front sweeps eastwards across the islands, giving a brief but very heavy downpour.
Surf and the Water
The surf will drop off to 2 feet but it will remain nice and clean. As for the swimming conditions, these will be best of all on the north coast at high tide, but it will also be nice and smooth in the southern corners of the west-coast bays. High water will be 8.3m at 10:10am, low water will be 2.6m at 4:20pm.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Bright and breezy on Monday, as a force 5-6 WSW’ly wind bring vast swathes of blue sky, punctuated by just the odd column of bubbly cloud. There will be showers falling from those clouds, but they will be so few and far between that we are unlikely to catch many (if any). Pushing ahead to Tuesday, the clouds will multiplied and closed in somewhat, making showers much more likely, and the wind will have backed to a fresh to strong SSW’ly. This wind-change will be due to the approach of a deep low-pressure system, which will go on to bring another very squally weather-front on Tuesday night. If you haven’t already packed away your parasols etc, then make sure you get on with that ASAP.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 4-6 feet on both days, very choppy on Monday and very clean on Tuesday. Lots of good windsurfing opportunities too. The tidal range getting fairly small now, with highs in the late mornings and lows in the late afternoons.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
Wednesday will probably be a dry and sunny little break from all the unsettled weather of the week. However, it will still have a fresh W’ly wind, so we aren’t going to see temperatures climb any higher than 17-18°C. Thursday and Friday, then won’t be any colder, funnily enough the temperature might actually be a degree higher, but the fresh to strong SSW’ly wind, cloudy skies and occasional rain certainly aren’t going to feel too special.
Surf and the Water
Tiny tides, with highs around lunchtime. The swimming conditions will always be rough on the south coast, but they are looking good on all other coasts at certain times and in certain nooks. As for the surf, we are probably looking at 4-5 feet; choppy on Wednesday and then clean on Thursday and Friday.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
