Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 27/09/2021

Monday

Weather

The heavy squally rain of late Sunday night will make driving conditions difficult for early commuters. However, it should have mostly cleared though by the second half of rush hour. With the clearance we shall see a temperature-plummet from the 16-17°C to about 13 or 14°C and the wind switch from a strong force 6 S’ly to a fresh force 5 W’ly. After that, we could be clipped by just the odd brief shower, but we are generally looking at a bright and breezy day, with puddles drying up quickly and completely. Max temp around 18°C in most parts, or maybe 19°C in the shelter of Town.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 4-6 feet and choppy. Great windsurfing conditions in most northern and western areas. Good swimming conditions on some eastern locations such as Fermain. High water will be about 7.9m at 10:30am, low water will be about 3.2m at 4:50pm.

Tuesday

Weather

The wind will back to a SSW’ly direction, moderate force 4 in the morning, picking up to strong force 6 by late evening. The wind increase will come from the development of a deep and very wet low-pressure system in the Celtic Sea. This will go on to absolutely drench the hills of western Britain and bring a rash of thundery showers to the Channel. Whether or not we are in range of any of the rumbles and flashes, we can be certain of a few squally downpours in the evening and overnight. Prior to all that action, it’s simply going to be a partly-sunny/partly-cloudy day, so there should be plenty of opportunity to do such sensible things as unpegging the laundry and unblocking drains/gutters etc.

Surf and the Water

The waves will be 4-5 feet and clean. so really great for surfing, and the windsurfing conditions will be excellent once again. This time the swimming conditions will be ok on any coast except the south, so long as you can nestle into a bit of a sheltered corner when the tide is up. High water will be about 7.3m at 11am, low water will be about 3.7m at 5:20pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Seize this day! Because, by a longshot, it’s the most confidently dry and sunny one. That said, there will still be a force 4-5 WNW’ly wind, which will bring cool air to the islands (max temps only 16-17°C), so you will really have to find a sheltered spot with a bit of a southern aspect, in order to feel at all warm.

Surf and the Water

It could be a good day for some novelty south-coast waves (only 1-2 feet though). That’s also going to be the best place to go for a swim, whilst the north and west coasts will continue to be great for windsurfing. Tiny tidal movements, with a high of about 6.5m at 2:10pm.

Thursday, Friday and the Weekend

Weather

The roller-coaster of unsettled autumn weather will continue, as a tag-team of low-pressure systems spiral around each other, giving a succession of thorough drenchings to all parts of the British Isles. Wherever you are (the Channel Islands included), it’s simply going to be showers or longer spells of rain, punctuated by one or two half days of dryness. All the while, the force 4 to 6 SW’ly winds will be doing their best to strip the leaves off the trees, and give the islands the hue and scent of October, priming our senses for the forthcoming fun of Halloween, Budloe and the like.

Surf and the Water

Good windsurfing conditions every day. As for the waves; they will generally be between 3 and 5 feet, alternating between cleanish (Thursday and Saturday) and more choppy (Friday and Sunday). The tides will be small throughout, with afternoon highs gradually increasing from about 6.5m on Thursday to 7.5m on Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
