Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 16/10/2021

Saturday

Weather

A bit of a cloudy episode in the middle of the day, perhaps with a little mist. Otherwise, we are looking at another day of sunny spells and similar temperatures to recent days (16-17°C maxima). There will be a bit more of a breeze than on Friday though. Nothing to strong, but let’s face it Friday was almost flat calm. This time we are looking at a force 3 SSE’ly, which will be enough to make the north and west coasts feel noticeably nicer than the south and east.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be one foot and clean, so still nice and rideable for keen kids who are learning. As for the swimming, the north and the west will be best, especially around high tide, which will be in the late afternoon.

Sunday

Weather

Cloudy but probably dry all day, with just some patchy rain or drizzle developing in the evening and overnight. The S’ly wind will be the key feature of the day, because it will be moderate force 4, which is not exactly a gale but it is stronger than the last five or six days. The temperature won’t suffer though, because this wind will steadily bring warmer air to the islands, so we are probably looking at a max of 17-18°C this time.

Surf and the Water

Tiny little waves, possibly still rideable, but perhaps not due to the increase in wind-strength. Once again, the best time to go swimming will be when the tide is quite high, so that’s either going to be around dawn or 1-2 hours before dusk.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Two windy days; the first cloudy and wet, the second sunny and dry. Monday won’t be wet throughout though, just a brief soaking in the morning and then another one in the evening. As for the wind, it will still be coming from S’ly direction; force 4-5 on Monday and then force 5-6 on Tuesday. Therefore, it’s not going to feel particularly balmy, but the temperature will be quite impressive for late October, probably peaking at 19°C on Tuesday.

Surf and the Water

Some great windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions. Not only that but we will also get some clean and sizeable waves for surfers… 2-3 feet by the end of Monday, then 4-5 feet on Tuesday. Big tides, with highs around dawn and dusk (roughly 8.5m on Monday and roughly 9m on Tuesday).

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

All change on Wednesday, when the wind veers to a strong WSW’ly, and then we get 3 days of sunshine and showers. On the plus side, those showers will always be rather brief. However, on the down side, they will be heavy, blustery and feeling cold, with max temperatures decreasing by about 2 degrees per day.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be real big but also very choppy. The windsurfers and kite-surfers will probably be the happiest people in the water. If it’s swimming your keen on, then your best bet will always be sheltered eastern spots like Fermain Bay. The tides will be high at breakfast time and in the evenings, generally around 9.2m or 9.3m,

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
