Monday
Weather
A grey and murky day, but not so bad in the morning (make the most of that). During the afternoon/evening, the rain will get heavier, the mist will get thicker and the SSW’ly wind will increase from force 4-5 to force 4-6.
Surf and the Water
If you’re swimming today, then it will be best to go at dawn along either the north or the west coast. However, if you’re surfing then I’m afraid the west-coast waves won’t increase in size quite as quickly as I previously expected… it now looks as though it won’t really be a decent rideable size until the tide really starts to push in the late afternoon. Those waves will be pretty clean and they should get up to 2-3 feet by the top of the tide (roughly 8.8m at 6:10pm).
Tuesday
Weather
Still windy (SSW’ly force 4-5, occasionally F6), but much much better in terms of weather and warmth. We are basically looking at dryness throughout daylight hours, with a decent amount of sunshine during the middle part of the day, taking temperatures to a max of 19°C. Not bad at all for late October. However, you will really need to find some shelter from that wind if you want to make the most of that warmth. Don’t forget to unpeg your washing at the end of the day. It should have all dried brilliantly, but it would soon get soaked again if you left it out overnight, because heavy rain is expected to return by about 9pm and then give us at least 10mm by the end of the night.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be similarly clean to Monday, starting off around 3 feet and steadily picking up to 5 feet by dusk. As with Monday, the windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will also be fab. Low water will be about 1.7m at lunchtime, and high water will be 8.8m around dawn and 9.1m around dusk.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
Both days will have long sunny spells, punctuated by brief but heavy and blustery showers (ooh and don’t forget the rainbows). The wind will be a force 6-7 SW’ly on Wednesday, gradually veering WNW’ly through Thursday. Temperatures taking a pretty steep dive, with a max of just 16-17°C on Wednesday and only 14-15°C on Thursday.
Surf and the Water
Some reeeally great windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions throughout both days. As for the surf, the west-coast waves will be 5-7 feet and reasonably clean on Wednesday, then over 10 feet and really messy on Thursday. However, with that wind and that swell, there are bound to be some rare gems to be found along the south coast (would love to see some pics of that). High tides will be about 9.2m at breakfast time. Low tides will be about 1.5m in the early afternoons.
Friday and the Weekend
Weather
The cool northerly airflow will continue through Friday, so we will probably only rise to 15°C, even though the weather should be dry and bright throughout. Moving on to the weekend, the wind will back to a fresh S’ly, lifting the temperature by at least a degree per day, but unfortunately giving us quite a lot of cloud on Saturday and then a few heavy showers on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
The surf will gradually shrink back to 4-5 feet through Friday, and it will become a little cleaner as it does so. Then, through the weekend, the two trends will continue, until by late Saturday and through Sunday, we will probably be looking at a pristine 1-2 feet, ideally suited to kids and longboarders.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
