Thursday
Weather
In the wake of the vicious overnight storm, the gales will ease to a much more bearable fresh force 5 WNW’ly in the morning, and then a delightfully relaxed force 3-4 N’ly in the afternoon and evening. Whilst we enjoy this gradual unwinding of the wind, the sun will tend to dominate the sky, only clouding over from time-to-time, as the briefest of showers ambles through (these most likely in the morning).
Surf and the Water
BIG waves and BIG tides (see the Guernsey Met warnings for details). As for the surf, check out the south coast during the afternoon… it’s always a gamble down there but it might just be epic. Likewise, if you’re keen for a sea-swim, then the south coast will be a good choice for that too.
Friday
Weather
Dry but cloudy, with the wind starting out as a force 4 NW’ly and finishing the day as a force 3 W’ly. The air will be inherently cool, so much like Thursday, we will only see a max of 14°C. To feel warmest, the advice would generally be to head east, although the morning time should also feel quite pleasant along the south coast.
Surf and the Water
Much smaller waves than on Thursday. Just around 4 feet along the west coast this time. Big tides again, but not such a concern without the wind and waves sticking the boot in any longer. As for the swimming, you probably couldn’t do much better than Fermain on this day.
The Weekend
Weather
Saturday will be just a tad milder than Friday, because we will have the same cloudy but dry scenario, but the wind will swing around to a force 4 SSW’ly. Sunday will then see a slight increase in wind strength and also the return of the sunshine and showers story. Max temperatures should be 15°C on Saturday and then 17 degrees on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
Great winds for keeping the surf clean along the west coast. Saturday will be the day for kids and learners (waves around 1-2 feet). Sunday a bit more fun for those with more experience (waves around 3-4 feet). The tides will be high around breakfast-time, and they will be starting to get smaller again, just 9m on Saturday and 8.8m on Sunday.
Next Week
Weather
Monday looks set to have a few showers in the morning but then we should bath in sunshine throughout the afternoon. Furthermore, the W’ly breeze will gradually ease from force 4-5 in the morning to just a light force 3 by the end of the day. Make sure you enjoy that little moment of calm, because Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be blowing a bit of a hooley again, with strong force SW’ly winds, perhaps occasionally strong force 7. After that, it looks as though it will stay a bit on the blowy side, but the sun should be shining and we will be importing mild air from the south, so we should see temperatures getting right up to around 18°C (not bad for nearly Halloween eh!).
Surf and the Water
Lots of great surf… 3-4 feet on the smallest days, 6+feet on the biggest. Some pretty fantastic conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing too. Medium-sized tides in the first half of the week (highs in the mid to late mornings), tiny tides in the second (highs around noon).
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
