Monday
Weather
Not a cold day… 15 or 16°C for the max (that’s just a tad more than at the weekend), with plenty of bright or sunny spells but also a few heavy showers. The wind will be a force 3-4 WSW’ly, so Town will be the warmest and most comfortable area (but you’re still going to need that brolly).
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf won’t be as clean as it was through the weekend but it will be bigger and more powerful, starting the day at 3-4 feet and finishing up at 5-6 feet. If you’re planning to swim, then the east coast will be the smoothest and loveliest for that. High water will be about 8.4m mid-morning and low water will be about 2.6m late afternoon.
Tuesday
Weather
Maybe half a degree warmer and certainly a whole lot drier. If we do see any showers then they will only be light and they will have probably all finished by the end of the morning rush-hour. Through the rest of the day, it will simply be a mix of cloud and sunshine, with a force 3-4 SW’ly breeze.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be a little bit cleaner than on Monday, starting off around 5 feet and finishing off around 4 feet. Swimming conditions will be lovely on the east coast again, but also along the north coast and in some sheltered western nooks too. High water will be about 7.9m mid-morning and low water will be about 3m late afternoon.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
Two dry and mostly sunny days, with temperatures peaking between 16°C and 17°C, which is really pretty good for late October. The wind will be a force 4 S’ly on both days, which means that there will be a good amount of shelter on all coasts except the south.
Surf and the Water
Pristine west-coast waves both days… roughly 3 feet on Wednesday, picking up to 5 feet on Thursday. The tidal range will be very small, with highs shortly before midday and lows shortly before dusk.
Friday and the Weekend
Weather
The wind will maintain a broadly S’ly direction, so we can be sure that the relatively high temperatures will continue. However, it won’t be so easy to appreciate them, because that wind will be blowing at force 5-6 and it will be bringing some pretty hefty showers every day. If there is an exception to that routine, then it’s likely to be on Sunday, when a deep low-pressure system might sweep right over the top of us, giving us persistent rain for the majority of the day. (That’s the final day of the forecast though, so it is typically very uncertain at this stage).
Surf and the Water
The wind direction will keep the surf clean throughout these three days, but the extra strength in that wind will make the conditions much more difficult (superb for windsurfing though). If you are swimming then steer well clear of the south coast; as for the other coasts, just make sure you go when the tide is high (lunchtime/early afternoon) so that you can get as much shelter from the cliffs and sea-walls as possible.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
