Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 30/10/2021

Saturday

Weather

Not much different from Friday, in that we will start the day with a fresh SSW’ly wind and a spell of rain. Then, by mid-morning, the wind will veer to a moderate WSW’ly and the rain will have turned to isolated showers and ever-increasing spells of sunshine. Town will be the warmest area, probably getting up to 16°C, whilst everywhere else only manages 15°C.

Surf and the Water

Teeny weeny tidal movements, with just a hint of a high at l2:10pm. The dawn surf session will be relatively small and clean (3-4 feet), and then it will become bigger and messier as the day progresses (5-6 feet). Winds probably won’t be quite strong enough for windsurfers and kite-surfers. As for the swimming, then your best bet will be a lunchtime dip on the east coast.

Sunday

Weather

Don’t forget the clock change! (an extra hour in bed woohoo! One less hour of evening light boo-hiss!). Overnight, the wind will have strengthened significantly (force 6-7 S’ly), as a deep low-pressure system develops over Ireland. Through Sunday, this low will move up to Scotland, causing wind to veer to a WSW’ly direction, without really losing any of its strength. Following a similar sequence to Friday and Saturday, the rain will be persistent in the early morning and then showery later. However, in this instance, it will all be much heavier, probably resulting in about 20mm, which is going to mean much bigger puddles. Once again, temperatures will peak at around 15°C but the strength of the wind will make it feel cooler than that.

Surf and the Water

Once again, small clean waves if you are up at the crack of dawn. However the rest of the day will generally be far too choppy to be of interest to surfers. Cracking conditions for windsurfers and kite-surfers though. Low tide will be at 8:40am. High tide will be at 2:$0pm (7.2m).

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

This is currently looking like the nasty end of the week, meaning that we hopefully have something to look forward to latter. All three days will see a mix of sunshine showers and rainbows, and the overnight periods (especially Monday night) will probably see longer spells of heavier rain. The wind will be the main difference from day to day, with Monday just continuing that strong force 6-7 WSW’ly that was initiated on Sunday (max temp 14-15°C). Tuesday then, after a very wet night, will have a fresh NW’ly wind (max temp 13°C) and Wednesday will have a fresh N’ly (max temp only 12°C).

Surf and the Water

Very messy west-coast surf each day (6-8 feet). Great condition for windsurfing and kite surfing though. If you are swimming then the east coast will be best at first but by Wednesday it will be all about the south coast. The tides will be getting much bigger, with highs around dusk… 7.9m, 8.6m and 9.1m respectively.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Not hot (13°C for the daily max), but currently looking reliably dry. The N’ly wind that will have left you feeling chilly on Wednesday, will be due to a developing high-pressure in the Atlantic. With high pressure comes dry and settled weather, so that is what we can expect as the high spreads eastwards into France. What’s uncertain about these two days is how sunny/cloudy they will be. The current best estimate is sunny on Thursday with a N’ly breeze, then cloudy on Friday with a W’ly breeze. It’s all a long way off though, so keep an eye on the updates because there are bound to be a few slight changes to say the least.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be getting smaller for sure. The wind will be onshore on the west coast, but the waves might be reasonably clean because that wind might be really light (still uncertain). BIG tides, with highs shortly before dawn and after dusk, roughly 9.4m on Thursday and 9.7m on Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
