Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 01/11/2021

Monday

Weather

Just as many vicious showers as we had on Sunday and Sunday night, but with a bit less wind this time. Still WSW’ly in direction, but this time it will generally be force 4-5 rather than force 6-7. Town will be the mildest location, racking up a max of 14°C, whilst most other areas peak at 13°C. There will obviously be some decent dry slots between the downpours, with a little bit of sunshine to enjoy. If it’s a beach walk that you’re fancying, then Fermain is probably your best bet, closely followed by Havelet or Bordeaux.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be a little messy but still fun and chunky (5-6 feet). Windsurfers and kite-surfers might just find enough wind for some fun, but it certainly won’t be as crazy fast as on Sunday. Low water will be 3.4m at 9:40am and high water will be 8m at 3:40pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

With winds continuing to blow at just a moderate force 4, but veering NW’ly on Tuesday and then N’ly on Wednesday, we will see a steady decline in temperature, even though there won’t be any significant change in weather… sunshine/heavy showers/rainbows. Max temps will be about 13°C on Tuesday and then just 12°C on Wednesday. As for the min temps, they will be between 7°C and 9°C each night, just depending on how long the skies are clear between the showers.

Surf and the Water

The water will be lovely and smooth along the south coast if you fancy a swim. Over on the west coast, the surf will be a little bit cleaner than the previous days, 4 feet on Tuesday and 3 feet on Wednesday. As for the tides, they will be low in the late mornings and high in the late afternoons (getting a bit spring now 8.6m and 9.2m respectively).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

With the exception of maybe one last shower on Thursday morning, we should finally bag a couple of dry and settled days. Winds will be light N’ly on Thursday, so the air will be inherently cold, but the sunshine should feel pretty pleasant, especially down on the south coast during the afternoon. Going on to Friday, the breeze will back to a NW’ly direction, bringing marginally milder air to the islands but this will probably be balanced out by an increase in cloud, meaning that both days feel very similar in the end (max temps around 13°C, min temps around 7°C).

Surf and the Water

There might just be some 1-2 foot surf to cling to on Thursday, but it will certainly be flat by Friday. Gorgeous swimming conditions down on the south coast again, especially if you head down at lunchtime, when the spring tides will be super-low and the beaches will be extra big and sandy.

The Weekend

Weather

High pressure will continue to bring dry and settled weather, at least through Saturday, probably with gentle SW’ly breezes, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures creeping up to 13 or 14°C. Sunday is much more uncertain though, as a weather-front is expected to swing into the area from the Atlantic. The question is just whether the weather front will be potent enough to bring rain or just another wodge of cloud. In either case, it’s all a bit ‘middle of the road’. No dramas, positive or negative.

Surf and the Water

The Saturday surf looks set to be just as flat as on Friday. However, early indications suggest we might just see a fresh pulse of swell on Sunday. As for the tides, they will be about 9.8m high in the early mornings and less than 1m low in the early afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
