Thursday
Weather
There will still be the odd shower in the area, but they will generally be heaviest and most frequent between Jersey and France. Guernsey might just catch a couple in the morning, but the vast majority of the day should be dry and partly sunny. Max temp… just a miserly 11°C. Furthermore, with a 4-5 N’ly wind, it’s going to feel as if it’s 5°C colder than that.
Surf and the Water
Big tides before dawn and after dusk. Low tide at lunchtime. The south-coast beaches will be big sandy and particularly good for lunchtime swim. Over on the west-coast, I’m afraid the surf is looking too small and choppy to get excited about, maybe just rideable for the keenest of kids at the end of the school-day.
Friday
Weather
Dry with plenty of sunshine but also some cloudy spells. With the N’ly flow continuing, we are looking at a very similar day to Thursday, but the wind will be lighter (just F2-3) so it’s going to feel much more comfortable. Daytime max 12°C, overnight min 8°C.
Surf and the Water
Lovely smooth water for swimmers all around the island, but especially on the south coast once again. Surf-wise, it’s just more children-only ripples I’m afraid. At least they will be lovely and clean though. Low tide will be at lunchtime again, and we will have another couple of really big highs around dawn and after dusk.
The Weekend
Weather
A couple of average autumn days, with winds returning to a W’ly direction. This means the air will be a bit milder, with max temps of 14-15°C and min temps of 10-11°C. Skies generally cloudy, but the weather generally dry apart from during the night-time, when some rain, drizzle and mist are likely.
Surf and the Water
Maybe some reasonable kite-surfing conditions on Saturday. As for the waves, they will be near flat on Saturday, picking up to a choppy 2-4 feet on Sunday. As for the swimming, then it’s going to be best on the east coast on Saturday, and also the south coast on Sunday. More big tides, with highs of about 9.8m at breakfast time.
Next Week
Weather
Apart from some rain and drizzle on Tuesday afternoon and night, it’s looking like a dry and settled week. Cloud cover will fluctuate uncertainly through the week, but there should be some sunny days and these currently look most likely to be Monday and Wednesday. Winds will generally be light, occasionally moderate, changing direction from day to day as a high-pressure system moves from Biscay over France and then over Southern Britain. Temperatures a bit higher than the preceding week, generally peaking in the low to mid-teens every day.
Surf and the Water
The tidal range will still be very large on Monday, but it will taper off through the week until we have highs of about 7.5m around midday Thursday and Friday. Surf-wise, it’s not looking bad. Winds will often be onshore but never strong enough to be very messy. Wave-heights 2-3ft Monday and Tuesday, picking up to 4-5 feet from Wednesday.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
