Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 06/11/2021

Saturday

Weather

After such a cold, clear and still evening, it will be a bit odd to see thick cloud in the morning and feel a mild and moderate WSW’ly breeze. Through the day, the wind will spruce up to force 5 and the temperature will creep up to 14°C (give or take half a degree). The sun isn’t likely to come out in any more than a hazy fashion, for about half an hour here and there. However, it will still feel very pleasant in sheltered areas like Town and Fermain.

Surf and the Water

It could be just about windy enough to get the kite-surfers on the water today (seize the moment because this looks like the strongest breeze in this forecast period). The surf will be tiny and choppy, maybe offering some rideable slop to the uber-desperate, shortly before dusk. However, we have good stuff coming next week, so maybe better to wait until then if you have that luxury. Low tide will be at lunchtime and high water will be about 9.7m at 7:30pm.

Sunday

Weather

After some rain on Saturday evening and night, we should be in for a dry Sunday. Still cloudy for the most part, but the sunny spells will be slightly brighter and longer lasting than on Saturday. The wind will nudge round to a force 3-4 NW’ly, meaning that not only will the east coast feel comfortably sheltered but the south coast will too. The temperature peaking at roughly 14°C again.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be sloppy but surfable for sure (generally around 2 feet, but with a few lucky 3-footers thrown in here and there). Swimmers will be looking for smoother water though, and this will be found all along the east coast and south coast. High tide will be about 9.6m at 7:50am, then low tide will be in the early afternoon.

Next Week

Weather

High pressure will move from Biscay on Monday, to central Europe for Tuesday through until Friday. This means that we are in for light and variable breeze on Monday, followed by gentle or moderate SSW’ly winds through the rest of the week. This means that we will have milder air than the previous week, with max temps of 13-15°C every day and min temps of 7-9°C. The precise highs and lows will depend on cloud amount, because that’s going to be coming and going throughout the week. Occasionally the cloud might be thick enough to give a little rain, but we are really only talking about spits and spots, probably not adding up to as much as 2mm across the entire week.

Surf and the Water

The tidal range will still be very large on Monday, but it will taper off through the week until we have highs of about 7.5m around midday Thursday and Friday. Surf-wise, it’s not looking bad. The waves should be clean throughout… 2-3ft Monday and Tuesday, picking up to 3-4 feet from Wednesday onward.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
