Monday
Weather
A cloudy but mild and calm day, with only a light force 2 W’ly breeze. The vast majority of the day should be dry but there is a chance of some light drizzle in the late afternoon/early evening. Despite the lack of sunshine, it will feel mild and comfortable, with temperatures hovering around 13-14°C through the day, then only dropping to 11-12°C overnight.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be about 2 feet and glassy, with just the lightest breath of onshore breeze. Swimming conditions will be marginally smoother on the east coast, but they will really be pretty decent on all coasts. High water will be about 9.4m at 8:30am and low water will be about 1.3m at 3pm.
Tuesday
Weather
Some small differences for Tuesday. The breeze will be more noticeable (a force 3-4 SW’ly) and the cloud will gradually become thin and wispy, allowing some sunshine to penetrate during the afternoon. Temperatures will be just like Monday; 13-14°C by day and 11-12°C by night.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast waves will be clean throughout the day… about 3 feet in the morning and then 4-5 feet in the afternoon. Swimmers will find smooth water on all coasts except the south. High water will be about 8.8m at 9:20am and low water will be about 1.9m at 3:40pm.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Three more ‘middle of the road’ days… cloudy, mild and relatively calm. The odd bright spell when the cloud becomes thinner; the odd damp moment when the cloud becomes thicker. Sorry if I’m sounding like a cracked record, but the temperatures will be virtually the same as on Monday and Tuesday… 12-14°C by day and 10-12°C by night.
Surf and the Water
Beautifully clean surf each day… 4-5 feet on Wednesday, 3-4 feet on Thursday, then 2-3 feet on Friday. Lovely smooth water for swimming and paddle-boarding too. The tidal range will continue to shrink, with highs at 10am (8.1m), 11:10am (7.5m) and 12:30pm (7.1m) respectively.
The Weekend
Weather
Slightly stronger W’ly winds through the weekend; force 4 on Saturday, with cloudy skies and occasional drizzle; then force 5 on Sunday, with dry weather and increasingly sunny skies. Town will be the warmest area on both days, topping out at 14°C (just like every other day this week).
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be about 4 feet and choppy (give or take a little), whilst the swimming conditions will be best on the east coast. The tidal range will remain on the small side, with lows around breakfast time and highs in the mid-afternoons. The tides will be about 7.5m high in the mid-late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
