Monday to Wednesday
Weather
Three days that are too similar to be worthy of separation. Each with sunny spells and occasional showers, but it’s the NE’ly wind that will really be the dominant player, keeping temperatures between about 7-8°C (by night) and 9-11°C (by day), but always feeling colder due to the wind-chill effect. That wind will be strongest on Monday (fresh force 5 to strong force 6); then on Tuesday a slight reduction (moderate force 4 to fresh force 5), followed by a greater reduction on Wednesday (just light force 3 to moderate force 4).
Surf and the Water
Much like Sunday, the west-coast surf is looking very poor but the windsurfing and kite-surfing will be good compensation for a few hardy types (except on Wednesday that is). Sea temperatures will probably fall further, maybe getting down to 13°C. I doubt that will be very noticeable to our sea-swimmers, but the wind-chill certainly will, so it would definitely be best to stick to the south coast for the most pleasant experience. High tides will be around breakfast time and low tides will be in the early to mid-afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday won’t be much different from the previous days, but the trends will reverse… so now the showers will become more frequent again and the NE’ly wind will crank back up to fresh force 5 or strong force 6. The increase in wind will be due to a low-pressure system pushing southwards from Iceland towards Scotland. Then, on Friday, as it moves through Scotland and into the North Sea, we shall see the wind change to a near-gale force NW’ly and the showers will merge into a really nasty spell of rain.
Surf and the Water
The conditions will be even worse for surfers but even better for windsurfers. Medium-small tides, with highs in the mid-mornings and lows in the late afternoons.
The Weekend
Weather
Friday’s spell of heavy rain will have ushered slightly colder air into the UK and the Channel. So there’s a high chance that we won’t see double-figure temperatures at any time over the weekend, even though there will be plenty of bright sunshine in-between the fleeting hail showers. The near-gale force NW’ly wind will continue through both days, so there won’t be many places to hide, but you might still salvage a reasonably pleasant walk, at the likes of Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints or Petit Bot.
Surf and the Water
Carrying on with great conditions for expert windsurfers, but extremely poor conditions for surfers. If you are swimming, then it will be essential to find a sheltered spot (Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints or Petit Bot) and that shelter will be at a maximum towards midday, when the tide is high.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
