Thursday
Weather
Probably a shower or two at dawn/breakfast time, but apart from that we are just looking at a super-sunny day. In the context of the rest of the forecast, this is definitely a moment that should be seized. However, best not to rush out without your hats and gloves, because the temperature is only going to reach 8-9°C for the max, and the force 4-5 NNE’ly wind is definitely going to have a bit of a bite to it.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be just as flat as the previous days, except perhaps for some choppy 2-foot slop towards the end of the day. The force 4-5 NNE’ly wind won’t be too bad for windsurfing and kite-surfing though. As for the swimming, it’s definitely a south-coast day for that. High tide 7.7m at 9:20am. Low tide 3.3m at 3:40pm.
Friday
Weather
Thermometers will still register a respectable figure of 10-11°C, but I’m afraid the wind will be blowing strong enough that it will still feel much colder. That wind will be a force 4-5 W’ly in the morning and then a force 6 NW’ly in the afternoon, further increasing to force 7 overnight. All the while, short sharp showers will come and go, falling as rain during the daytime, then gradually turning to hail overnight.
Surf and the Water
The conditions will be even better for windsurfers and kite-surfers. As for the surf, well that will be very messy indeed, but the waves should be about 4-5 feet so they will at least be rideable. High tide 7.3m at 10am. Low tide 3.6m at 4:30pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Sunny spells and blustery hail showers on Saturday. Strong to gale force N’ly winds adding an horrific wind-chill to the already low temperature of 6-8°C. Moving on to Sunday, the airflow will be similarly cold but the wind strength should ease significantly (force 5 NW’ly), so it shouldn’t be nearly so painful. Furthermore, the showers will be much fewer and lighter, making this the best day of the weekend for any outdoor activity (by a long shot).
Surf and the Water
There’s a slim chance of some novelty waves at Petit Bot or Petit Port, but apart from that it’s probably best to forget about surfing this weekend. The most hardcore windsurfers might still be keen to take to the water though (don’t forget your gloves). Small tidal movements, with highs at 11am on Saturday and at twenty past midday on Sunday.
Next Week
Weather
Monday and Tuesday should see a further reduction in the wind-strength, as well as the showers probably dying out altogether. This will lead to a relatively comfortable feeling. However, with the temperature still struggling to scrape double figures, you probably don’t want to go leaving your jackets at home. The rest of the week is very uncertain with respect to temperature, because it’s unclear whether winds will maintain their NW’ly direction or change to a SW’ly. Either way, it looks as though those winds will strengthen and we will probably see quite a lot of rain.
Surf and the Water
Probably not flat, but really not looking great for surfers. The best hope I can offer, are any moments when the wind falls light or briefly backs to a S’ly direction, so be sure to look out for them. Small tides at the beginning of the week, big tides by the end of the week.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
