Saturday
Weather
Starting in the early hours, this is the day of Storm Arwen…Gale force 8-9 N’ly winds with gusts of 60-65mph during the heaviest hail showers. Winds will just ease a little as we move in to the afternoon, down to strong force 7 by dusk, with the showers less frequent and the gusts no stronger than 50-55mph.
Surf and the Water
Only the bravest of windsurfers will think about taking to the water on this day. For any other activity (swimming or surfing), the south coast is the only spot that might almost be sheltered enough. However, once again, we are only talking about the brave and the experienced. High water will be about 7.1m at 11am.
Sunday
Weather
The wind will still come from the North, so the air that it brings will remain very cold (max temp just 7-8°C, just like Saturday). However, that wind will be so much lighter that it will feel relatively comfortable… just fresh force 5 in the daytime and then moderate force 4 overnight. As for the showers, they will be much fewer and lighter than on Saturday, meaning that this will definitely be the day to seize, if you are fancying a decent weekend walk.
Surf and the Water
Whether it’s west-coast windsurfing or south-coast swimming, it’s looking similar ti Saturday but not nearly so hardcore and scary. High water will be about 7.1m at twenty past midday.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Weather-wise, it will be similar to Sunday, with lots and lots of dry time and just the odd light shower here and there. However, the temperature will be nicely on the rise, picking up to 9 or 10°C on Monday and then 11 or 12°C on Tuesday.
Surf and the Water
The surf will not be great but it will be a rideable 3 feet and it will probably be more attractive than over the frigid weekend. The best swimming conditions will generally be in the east (especially Fermain around high tide in the early afternoons).
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
The relatively nasty end of the week will comprise force 6-7 NW’ly winds on Wednesday and Thursday, picking up to gale force 8 on Friday. Each day peppered with showers and maybe one or two longer spells of rain. If there’s one redeeming feature, it’s that the temperature will stay on the mild side… 10-12°C by day and 8-10°C by night.
Surf and the Water
It’s really going to be about the windsurfing and kitesurfing on these days. That or seeking a sheltered swim at the likes of Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints or Petit Bot. The tides will be getting quite big again, with lows in the late mornings and highs around dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
