Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 23/12/2021

Thursday

Weather

The air will be much milder, with a max of 12°C and a gradually decreasing wind (force 4-5 S’ly in the morning then force 3-4 SW’ly in the afternoon). Although that may sound nice after the recent cold, I’m afraid it isn’t going to be that pretty, with grey skies, mist and occasional rain or drizzle for the majority of the day. The late afternoon will offer some improvement though, with dry weather and maybe even an hour of brightness before dusk.

Surf and the Water

Well Wednesday didn’t quite get the surf that we hoped for, that swell has now rolled over to Thursday, meaning that we can expect clean 2-3 footers in the morning and then 4 or perhaps even 5 foot waves by late afternoon. High water will be about 8.4m at 8:40am, low water will be about 2.6m at 3pm.

Friday (Christmas Eve)

Weather

The morning should be mostly dry and the air will still be nice and mild 10-11°C. Unfortunately however, showery rain will have arrived by lunchtime, with a few heavy bursts as we go through the afternoon. Winds will back to a SSE’ly direction and they will strengthen to fresh force 5, so jackets will probably be required for the wind-chill as well as the rain.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 6 foot surf (maybe with a few bigger sets). I hope you surfers have done all your Christmas shopping, because you’re not going want to miss out on this classic day. High water will be about 8.2m at 9:10am, low water will be about 2.9m at 3:40pm.

Christmas day and Boxing Day

Weather

Christmas Day, much like the previous day, should be mostly dry through the morning, So perhaps it’s best to go for your winter walks before lunch rather than after. Lunchtime and the rest of the day will have patchy rain, with a few heavy bursts, but it won’t be cold… temperatures staying up at about 11°C. Boxing Day is looking quite a lot drier and sunnier, although even that day will have one or two brief showers. As for the wind, that’s going to be a force 5 S’ly through Christmas Day and a force 4 SW’ly through Boxing Day.

Surf and the Water

Outstanding surf on Christmas Day… clean 5 foot waves for the lucky ones who can fit it in. The surf will be about a foot smaller on Boxing Day but most people will be focussing on the Cobo sea-swim anyway. The air temp and the water temp will be roughly the same… around 11°C. That’s certainly going to feel chilly but it could easily have been quite a lot worse. High tides will be in the late mornings and low tides will be around dusk.

Next Week

Weather

Winds will veer NE’ly on Monday, which will briefly pull colder air over the Channel, but it won’t last long enough to plunge temperatures into the low single figures, so I’m certainly not thinking that Monday‘s rain will turn wintry at all. Monday night be a bit frosty though, as everything becomes dry, clear and rather calm. That won’t last long though, as a mild SW’ly flow will have returned by Tuesday morning, and then we shall see occasional rain and drizzle coming and going throughout the rest of the week.

Surf and the Water

Clean surf every day except Monday. Wave-heights generally around 4-5 feet. Winds will occasionally be strong enough for kite-surfing and wind-surfing, especially from Wednesday onward. As for the tides, they will be medium-sized, with highs around lunchtime in the first half of the week, then in the mid to late afternoons at the end of the week.

The next forecast update will be on Boxing Day…
