Sunday (Boxing Day)
Weather
A showery start to the day, but it should be sunny and dry by late morning or midday at the latest. The dry weather will then continue until late in the night, but the sky will gradually become cloudier, as the next soggy weather front ambles in from the Atlantic. The air will be mild day and night (max 11°C, min 9°C). The winds will be SW’ly force 3-4 in the morning, dropping off to just force 2-3 in the afternoon.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be pretty clean, maybe not quite as pristine as Christmas Day (or as big) but still grrreat. As for the big Cobo swim… well the breeze will not be a great direction to find super-shelter there, but it really isn’t going to be too strong and the sun will probably be shining. High water will be roughly 8m at 10am, low water will be about 3.3m at 5:10pm.
Monday to Wednesday
Weather
A proper unsettled few days (not quite on the named winter storm level), but we are talking three days of force 5-6 winds, with heavy rain on Monday (probably adding up to 10-15mm in total), then another very wet spell on Tuesday evening and night, followed a full day of mist and drizzle on Wednesday. It’s not going to be cold though; max temps 12°C on Monday, 13°C on Tuesday and 14°C on Wednesday. The winds; SE’ly on Monday, then WSW’ly on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Surf and the Water
Medium-small tidal movements, with lows during darkness and highs around lunchtime. Super-clean 3-foot surf on Monday, followed by slightly choppy 6-foot surf on Tuesday and Wednesday. As for the wind-surfing, that’s looking great every day (especially Tuesday and Wednesday).
Thursday and Friday (New Year’s Eve)
Weather
It’s far from certain but these two days are currently expected to be the dry and settled portion of the week, thanks to the ability of a French high-pressure system to keep pushing the Atlantic lows into Iceland and northwest Britain. For us this means a mild S’ly airflow (probably force 4 but maybe force 5). We should stay dry but the cloud/sunshine ratio be roughly 50/50, so it should be really comfortable for outdoor activity, especially along the west coast. Daily max temps 13°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 8-foot surf on Thursday, dropping slightly (but still impressive) to 6 feet on Friday. Windsurfing conditions could be good too, but that’s much less certain. Medium-sized tidal movements, with lows in the mid-mornings and highs in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
