Wednesday
Weather
Misty and drizzly for much of the day, with thicker fog on hills, especially in the morning and evening. Likely dry and perhaps a bit clearer during the afternoon. The murk is all due to the mildness and humidity of the air, brought here by the force 5-6 WSW’ly wind. The temperature will probably hold at 13°C all day, but it might briefly slip up to 14°C, and then it will only fall to 12°C during the night.
Surf and the Water
The west coast surf will be a little over 6 feet and a bit choppy. Definitely some good waves to be had though, along with some excellent windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions. Swimmers will find the best shelter down at Fermain and the mild air should make things much more comfortable too. Low water will be at 8am and high water will be about 7.7m at 2pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
These two days are like most other day’s lately, in terms of the temperature being relatively high (14°C by day and 11-12°C by night). However, it does appear that they will be almost entirely dry and the wind should be a tad lighter than the surrounding days (a moderate force 4 SSW’ly for the most part). The only times that look a little bit damp are perhaps the early mornings, when there could be a bit of drizzle floating around. The afternoons by contrast, might even be quite bright, especially on Thursday, so be sure to make the most of that one.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish 5-6 foot waves on both days and some fairly good windsurfing conditions too. As for the tides… the lows will be around mid-mornings and the highs will be in the late afternoons (7.9m and 8.3m respectively).
The Weekend
Weather
The wind will perk up to strong force 6 again, maintaining its SSW’ly direction through Saturday and then gradually veer WSW’ly through Sunday. This will mean that temperatures stay relatively high, but you will want to find a bit of shelter to really feel the benefit. Skies should be quite sunny at times but this will be balanced out by the presence of a few showers. On Saturday, the showers will be quite sparse and not too heavy, so I doubt they will be much of a hindrance then. On Sunday however, those showers will be heavier and more frequent, so I really wouldn’t recommend hanging the washing out on that day.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 5-6 foot surf for the majority of the weekend, just turning a little bit choppy on Sunday afternoon though. Outstanding windsurfing conditions once again. As for the tides… the lows will be around midday and the highs will be shortly after dusk (8.7m and 9m respectively).
Next Week
Weather
With high pressure becoming established across Biscay and the nearby Atlantic, a series of low-pressure systems will roll around the periphery, piling into Scotland and tumbling down the North Sea and into Central Europe. While this happens, the Channel will spend the majority of the time in a strong NW’ly airflow, that will be relatively cool compared to the final week of December. Most days will be bright or sunny, with just the odd blustery shower of rain or maybe hail. Daytime max temps will be about 9 or 10°C, overnight min temps will be about 6-7°C.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will get choppier and smaller as we go from Monday though to Wednesday, although there might be the odd clean rideable wave down on the south coast. Thursday and Friday might just offer bigger cleaner waves, as the high pressure system moves into France, allowing low-pressure systems to dominate the Atlantic again, and allowing our local onshore wind to relax a little. Big tides all week, with highs of around 9.5m in the mornings and evenings.
