Thursday
Weather
Finally! Here it is… dry, sunny and with good visibility. This will all come courtesy of a continental E’ly airflow (light force 3). Temperatures won’t climb very high, but it will feel very comfortable if you wear the right clothes, and you might even be able to dry a load of laundry if you hang it out nice and early. Max daytime temp 8°C then an overnight min of 3-4°C with a patchy ground-frost.
Surf and the Water
More amazing surf, not quite as whomping as Wednesday, more like 3-4 feet of pure fun on this day. Tiny tidal movements too, so timing your session will not be an issue. As for the swimmers, it’s got to be one of the more sheltered west-coast bays for that, probably Cobo around lunchtime for the best of it.
Friday
Weather
Very little change from the fine conditions of Thursday, just a slight change in direction of that light continental breeze… nudging round to a SE’ly, meaning that there will be even less influence from the relatively warm sea-water, so our max temp will only be about 7°C and then the overnight temperature will be a degree lower too, meaning that ground-frost will be widespread.
Surf and the Water
More pristine 4 foot perfection for surfers. The tidal movements will be slightly larger, but still pretty tiddly in the grand scheme of things (3.3m at 10:20am and 7.2m at 4:20pm). Once again, west will be best, not just for surfing but also for swimming (although L’Ancresse Bay will also be lovely for winter-dippers, especially during the sunny afternoon).
The Weekend
Weather
The high-pressure system that’s responsible for the lovely settled weather will slip southwards into France and then Spain. As this happens there will be a change in the direction of the gentle breeze… S’ly to SW’ly though Saturday and then SW’ly to W’ly through Sunday. This little tour around the compass will mean that our air will be ever-more maritime rather than continental… a gradual rise is temperature (particularly overnight) and a gradual increase in humidity (which inevitably means more cloud). So… Saturday will be another bright day with sunny spells giving a daytime max of 9°C, followed by an overnight min of 5-6°C, then Sunday will be more grey and overcast, with the chance of a spot of light rain during the night time (10°C for the max, then 6-7°C for the min).
Surf and the Water
Despite the directional changes of the wind, the surf will still be lovely and clean (even on Sunday afternoon, because the onshores will be so light). The waves will be a little smaller though, generally 2-3 feet, so still rideable for shortboarders and positively brilliant for longboarders. No doubt you will have noticed that waxing moon though, so the tides will be getting suitably bigger… 7.6m at 5pm on Saturday and then 7.9m at 5:50pm on Sunday.
Next Week
Weather
Despite the slight downturn in the weather over the weekend, it doesn’t look as though the trend will continue in that direction. Monday might just see a shower or two, as a little low-pressure system skirts by to the nearby west. However, it won’t be long before the high-pressure system strengthens over Northwest Europe again, returning us to that dry, fine but rather chilly SE’ly or E’ly airflow. The breeze might be a little stronger this time, probably moderate force 4, making it even better for drying the laundry, but also making you want to keep your hats on/hoods up.
Surf and the Water
More gorgeous clean surf every day, pretty tiny on Monday and Tuesday though… 2 feet and 1 foot respectively. Then, from Wednesday, we will most-likely see a new 3-4 foot swell to take us through the rest of the week. As for the tides… they will carry on growing, albeit slowly, until they peak at about 8.7m at breakfast time on Thursday and Friday.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
