Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 22/01/2022

Saturday

Weather

A cloudy day, but not without a colourful sunrise/set, and a few veins of midday blue to let a little brightness through. Winds will be very light indeed (NNE’ly), so the low temperatures (6-8°C) will not feel especially cold. Casual walkers/cyclists will probably choose to wear jackets and gloves, but it will be fine to dress lightly for higher energy activity such as running or football.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will either be flat or so small that it will only be of interest to keen kiddies. The sea will be almost glassy though, which will be lovely for winter-dippers and paddle-boarders etc. High water will be at 9:06am (roughly 8.4m) and low water will be at 3:31pm (roughly 1.9m).

Sunday

Weather

Virtually the same as Saturday, with its silvery sky and its cool, clear air (cracking visibility). The wind (albeit so light that you can barely feel it) will be an E’ly though, and this will exert a little influence from the cold French landmass, meaning that temperatures are about a degree lower throughout.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will still be tiny, but it might just be a tad stronger than on Saturday, maybe making it suitable for adults on longboards. As for the smooth water activity, that’s going to be just as good as on Saturday, in all areas but especially the west. High water will be at 9:43am (roughly 8.2m) and low water will be at 4:06pm (roughly 2.1m).

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

As the very light breeze veers to a SE’ly direction, we will maintain the feed of cold air under mostly cloudy skies. There will be a few breaks here and there, which briefly let the sunshine or starlight through. However there will also be times that the cloud is thick enough to produce a light shower or two. Emphasis on the word ‘light’, because I’m really just talking about a few spits and spots, and even these might miss the islands and just fall over the sea. Temperatures will generally peak at 6-7°C on Monday and Tuesday, then probably pick up to 8°C on Wednesday. During the nights it will probably be cloudy enough to keep temperatures above 4 or even 5°C, but there is a chance of falling to 3°C if we get any longer stretches of clear sky and if that’s the case then ground-frost would also be likely.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will generally be 2 feet and clean, but there could be the odd 3 foot pulse (especially on Monday). Once again. The swimming/paddling conditions will be good all around the island, but the west coast will be best of all. The tidal range will become smaller day-by-day, with the times of high water moving from late morning to lunchtime.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Two milder days, with max temps of about 9 or maybe even 10°C, and min temps of 6-7°C. We should also see some decent sunny spells too. However, the wind will increase to a force 4-5 NW’ly and there will probably be a spell of rain on Thursday morning.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be slightly bigger (around 3 or perhaps 4 feet) but quite a lot choppier. If it’s smooth calm water that you’re looking for then the south and east coasts will give you what you want. As for the tides, they will be medium-small with lows around breakfast time and highs in the early afternoon.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
