Wednesday
Weather
Just as cloudy and grey as Tuesday, but with a lighter WNW’ly wind (force 3-4) there will be a couple of differences. Firstly the cloud might be a tad lower, meaning that it could be misty in the higher parishes at times. Secondly, it will probably feel a little bit warmer, even though the temperature will be roughly the same (10-11°C in the daytime and 8-9°C in the night time).
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be about 2-3 feet, sloppy and lumpy. However, with a lighter onshore wind than on the other days this week, it could be worth taking advantage of. As for the sea swimming, the east coast will definitely be best for that. High tide will be about 9.5m at 7:21am. Low tide will be about 0.7m at 1:51pm.
Thursday
Weather
Again, very similar but with just a couple of subtle differences… this time the wind will be a force 4 WSW’ly and the air will have a bit more moisture, meaning that the cloud will be thick enough to squeeze out some rain or drizzle on and off throughout the day. Temperatures will be very much the same (10-11°C in the daytime and 8-9°C in the night time) and Town will always be the most sheltered and comfortable place to go.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be 2 feet and pretty messy. The windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions could be ok by the end of the day though. Once again, the best swimming conditions will be on the east coast, or maybe up at Pembroke in the first half of the morning. High water will be about 9.7m at 8:05am. Low water will be about 0.6m at 2:34pm.
Friday
Weather
Like bookends to the working week, Friday will have virtually the same weather as we had on Monday. So, if you remember that one, it was a partly sunny day, with a fresh and gusty NW’ly wind. There were a few showers drifting along in the breeze, most of them managing to miss the islands. 9-10°C for the max temperature, with the south coast being the loveliest place to go for a decent walk or a run.
Surf and the Water
The west coast could be good for windsurfing and kitesurfing, but the south coast will be best for swimming and it might have a few little waves for surfers too. High tide will be about 9.5m at 8:45am. Low tide will be about 0.8m at 3:14pm.
The Weekend
Weather
The main change as we go through the weekend will be gradual increase in the strength of the wind… force 4-5 on Saturday, then strong force 6 on Sunday. However, it will still come from a W’ly direction, so there won’t be much change in the general feel of things (max temps still around 10-11°C and min temps still around 8-9°C). As for the weather, I’m certainly not expecting any rain at the moment, in fact the cloud might even be thin enough for the odd ray of sunshine to break through.
Surf and the Water
Saturday morning currently looks half-decent for surfers, then the rest of the weekend is really looking better for windsurfers and kitesurfers. High tides will be in the mid-mornings 9.2m on Saturday and 8.7m on Sunday. Low water will be in the late afternoons.
Next Week
Weather
The high pressure system that has spent a long time parked to the southwest of us, will slide eastwards until it is parked over southeast Europe by Wednesday and then completely out of the picture on Thursday and Friday. On Monday and Tuesday, the high centre will be closet to us, so these two days are likely to be dry and partly sunny with just a gentle WSW’ly breeze. Through the rest of the week, we will be more under the influence of the low-pressure systems that sweep over northern Britain. Therefore, we can expect fresh to strong SSW’ly winds, occasional showers and possibly some longer spells of rain. Temperatures staying up above the climatological average for early February.
Surf and the Water
It’s looking like a much better week for surfing, with the west-coast waves steadily increasing in size and quality. Furthermore, with the tidal movements becoming very small and the highs being around lunchtime, there should be lots more options in terms of both timing and location.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
