Monday
Weather
A lovely sunny morning with a gentle but rather chilly NW’ly airflow, then a milder but cloudier afternoon brought to us by a gentle SW’ly. By dusk we might have already seen some mist and hill-fog, then through the night this will become thicker and more widespread, leading to quite a lot of drizzle at times.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast waves will be getting smaller 5 feet in the morning and 3-4 feet in the afternoon. However, they will also be getting cleaner as the onshore breeze gradually changes to a cross-offshore. As for the swimming… lots of good options but the loveliest of all will be along the south-coast in the morning. High water will be about 8m at 10:31am and low water will be about 2.5m at 4:55pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
The murkiness of late Monday, will wax and wane through both of these days. Cloudy for the vast majority of that time, but that cloud sometimes thick enough for mist and drizzle and sometimes thin enough for a bit of brightness. Tuesday will probably see the worst of the murk and Wednesday the best of the brightness. Max temps will be 10-11°C and min temps will be 8-9°C. The winds SW’ly light F3 to moderate F4, so feeling pretty comfortable in most parts (especially Town), perhaps not so comfortable along the south coast though.
Surf and the Water
Some absolutely cracking west-cost waves on these days… 4 feet and clean on Tuesday, then 5-6 feet and clean on Wednesday. As for the swimming… the north and east coasts will be best for that. Small tidal movements, with highs at around 11am on Tuesday and around midday on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
With winds veering NW’ly to N’ly on Thursday and then to NE’ly on Friday, we will be in a cooler airflow, so temperatures will only get up to about 8°C in the daytime and then they will drop off to 5 or 6°C at night time, with ground-frost likely in places. As for the weather, that’s going to be an improving story, but it might be quite a slow process, as we will hang on to cloudy skies and drizzly showers through much of Thursday. Friday, however, should become beautifully sunny, with the south coast being particularly gorgeous during the afternoon.
Surf and the Water
I know it’s always uncertain down there but Thursday could bring some nice little surf along the south coast early morning and late afternoon. Friday’s wind will also be good for the south coast but the swell will probably be too small. However, over on the west coast, the cross-shore wind shouldn’t do too much damage to the 2-3 foot waves. Tidal movements will be tiny on both days, with just the hint of a high around 1pm on Thursday and around 2:30pm on Friday.
The Weekend
Weather
Saturday will be gorgeously sunny, just like Friday, perhaps even more so. The wind will be a force 3-4 E’ly, maintaining the cool airflow (max temp just 7-8°C). Moving on to Sunday, the wind will wind to a SSW’ly direction and strengthen to force 4-5. This will bring increasingly cloudy skies and maybe some rain in the night time, but it will also bring milder air to the area, meaning that we should reach 10°C quite easily. The west coast being the area that feels most comfortable on both Saturday and Sunday.
Surf and the Water
The west coast will be pristine for both surfing and swimming. However, the waves will only be small (1-3 feet). Low tides in the mid-late mornings. High tides in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
