Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 12/02/2022

Saturday

Weather

It will be dry and cloudy but reasonably bright through daylight hours, much like Friday afternoon was. We will also peak at a similar max temperature (8-9°C) but I’m afraid it will feel much chillier due to the force 5 SSW’ly wind. On the plus side however, this wind will be excellent for drying the weekend laundry, so it would definitely be wise not to leave it for Sunday.

Surf and the Water

A great day for windsurfers and kitesurfers. The west-coast waves will be a bit smaller than on Friday (about 2 feet) but just as clean. Low tide will be about 3.8m at 9:43am and high tide will be about 6.8m at 3:56pm.

Sunday

Weather

During the night, the wind will have strengthened significantly such that we will wake up to a force 6-7 SSW’ly. As the morning progresses, some rather prolonged and heavy rain will set in, probably not clearing until sometime in the evening. Furthermore, the wind might briefly strengthen to gale force 8, whilst the rain is heaviest. By the end of the day we will have probably received between 10 and 20mm of rain, but it might be more. Whatever the precise figure, there will certainly be some large puddles around the island by the end of the day, then overnight the rain will be replaced by isolated showers and the wind will veer to a force 5-6 WSW’ly.

Surf and the Water

Despite the crazy weather, there will certainly be some decent action available for the most hardcore wave-riders and wind-junkies. The west-coast surf will be 3-5 feet and clean. Low tide will be about 3.5m at 10:47am and high tide will be about 7.4m at 4:51pm.

Monday

Weather

The wind will still be a gusty force 5 NW’ly, but this will feel relatively relaxed after the ordeal of Sunday. As for the weather, that’s going to be mostly bright or sunny, but there will be the odd heavy shower busting through at times, mainly in the morning. The max temperature should be about 10°C and the south and west coasts will certainly be the best places to feel sheltered and comfortable.

Surf and the Water

The west coast will still be good for windsurfing and kitesurfing. It could even be fun for any surfers that don’t mind it messy and lumpy (4-5 feet). For some much cleaner novelty surf (2-3 feet), then it could be worth hunting around the south coast. Swimmers will find shelter on the south coast too, but they will also be able to enjoy the extreme shelter of Fermain in the east. Low water will be about 2.9m shortly before midday and then high tide will be about 7.8m around dusk.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

Strong W’ly winds will bring mild and moist air to the islands every day, except for Friday, when things should become calm and settled (much like the Friday we’ve just had). During the middle part of the week (Tuesday to Thursday) the wind will fluctuate between force 5 and force 7 and the skies will be mostly cloudy and grey. Rain will come and go, mostly light and drizzly, but possibly quite heavy for a time on Tuesday night. Temperatures generally peaking at 11-12°C in the daytime and then falling to between 8 and 10°C during the night-time.

Surf and the Water

The tides will gradually get springy again, with highs around dawn and dusk and lows around lunchtime (the biggest tides being about 9m around breakfast time on Thursday and Friday). As for the surf, this will be very choppy for the majority of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (steadily increasing from about 6 feet to 8 feet or perhaps even 10 feet). Friday should be the best day of all though, with a clean and powerful 6 foot swell (if current expectations pan out).

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
