Monday
Weather
You might just get whipped by one last shower around breakfast time, but the rest of the day should be bone dry, with increasing amounts of sunshine. Don’t get too excited though, because it is going to be blowing an absolute hooley… a gale force 8 WNW’ly in the morning, with gusts of up to 55mph. Then, during the afternoon, the wind will very slowly reduce to a more standard force 6. Then overnight it will drop right off to a moderate force 4 (NW’ly to begin with, then backing WSW’ly later). Max temp 10°C (but feeling much colder due to the wind-chill), min temp 8°C.
Surf and the Water
A crazy huge cauldron of a sea, all around the island except for the extremely sheltered eastern bays. It will be pretty much as rough as it was through storm Eunice, so I can’t really suggest any activities, except for heading to Fermain, if you’re a hardcore daily dipper. High tide will be about 9m at 9:25am (more huge splashes out west). Low tide will be at 3:45pm.
Tuesday
Weather
Lighter winds than Monday, but still a bit on the rough side, starting and finishing the day with a force 5 W’ly, but picking up to strong force 6 for a large chunk of both the morning and the afternoon. Weather-wise, it will be a day of two halves… cloudy with occasional mist and drizzle in the morning, then a brief spell of heavier rain around lunchtime, before it turns dry and sunny in the afternoon. Max temp 11°C, min temp 7°C.
Surf and the Water
During the morning, the surf will be 6-8 feet and a bit choppy on the west coast, 3-4 feet and a bit cleaner on the north coast. During the afternoon, it will all be messy, except perhaps if you can find a decent wave down at Petit Bot. Once again, if you are a swimmer then it will be best to stick to the sheltered east. High tide will be about 8.4m at 10:02am. Low tide will be at 4:20pm.
Wednesday
Weather
Although this day is looking cloudy, it should be celebrated for being entirely dry, with good visibility and a much gentler wind than we have had for a while (just a light force 3 to moderate force 4 SW’ly). The max temp will be an unremarkable 10°C but it really will feel so much more comfortable of late. If you haven’t been out jogging or cycling for a while, then this will be a great day to pick things up again.
Surf and the Water
Clean 6 foot surf on the west coast, a rea corker of a day for surfers. The shrinking tidal movements will be good new too, giving everyone a few more options. High tide will be about 7.9m at 10:44am. Low tide will be at 5:02pm.
Thursday through until Sunday
Weather
Thursday will be a bit of a blip, as we have a very chilly force 6 to 7 W’ly wind and some brief but heavy showers, to punctuate the longer sunny spells. However, the good news is that high pressure will be in charge for the next three days. On Friday, the high will be pushing in from the west, giving us a gentle NW’ly airflow with dry weather and sunshine. The high will then move overhead on Saturday, giving sunshine and virtually no wind in the morning, followed by a moderate S’ly flow with cloudier skies in the afternoon. Sunday is then a very uncertain, because the high is due to sink into Europe, just letting the wet Atlantic weather get a bit closer to the Channel Islands. At the moment it looks set to be cloudy but dry, with a moderate SW’ly wind. It might end up being lovely on Sunday, but given the uncertainty at this stage, I would advise anybody to make the most of the good weather that Friday and Saturday have to offer.
Surf and the Water
The tidal movements will be really small, with a depth change of about 4mm between all the highs and lows. High water will be around lunchtime Thursday and Friday, then mid-afternoon on Saturday and Sunday. Surf-wise Thursday and Friday will be messy on the west coast but there might be something clean and rideable if you go rooting around the south coast. Then, through the weekend, the west coast should have clean 3-4 foot waves, which will be really fun for anybody that’s found it all a bit too wild of late.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
