Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 05/03/2022

The Weekend

Weather

Both days will have their fair share of showers (mainly through the second half of Saturday and through the first half of Sunday). However, Saturday should see a good deal of sunshine in between the showers, whereas Sunday will probably be cloudy throughout. Max temps around 8-9°C on both days but the force 4-5 NE’ly winds will make it feel more chilly than that. As for the overnight minimum temps, they should be around 5°C, so yeah hot-water-bottles at the ready but you probably don’t have to worry about ground-frost in your gardens (too breezy for that).

Surf and the Water

The surf hasn’t been quite as big as promised through the last two days but I don’t think this means we can downscale the expectation for the weekend. I think 2-3 foot waves both days is a good estimate (perhaps with the odd 4 foot set in the early mornings). The cross-shore wind will spoil it to some extent, but there should still be plenty of fun to be had. That same wind will mean that the south coast will be the best place for swimmers to head. Shoot for the breakfast time high if you like a deep-water entry, or wait for the early-afternoon low, if you prefer the vast stretches of sand at the likes of Petit Port or Jaonnet Bay.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Once again, we are unlikely to escape without a few showers on both days. However, the slight difference from the weekend will be that the wind will be force 4-5 SE’ly and that’s going to gradually turn the temperature in an upward direction. Emphasis on the word ‘gradual’ though, because France will have got very cold on Sunday night and that cold air will blow over us on Monday, so we probably won’t exceed 8-9°C on that day despite plenty of sunny spells. On Tuesday however, with further sunny spells, we should climb to a healthy 10 or 11°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be gorgeously clean, but it is going to be teeny weeny… 1 foot for the most part, with only a few bonus 2-footers here and there. The west coast will also be great for our sea-swimmers, as will the north coast. High water will be in the mid-mornings… 8.9m on Monday and 8.2m on Tuesday. Low water will be in the mid to late afternoons

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

Just like the other days in this forecast period, these days should be mostly dry but they should each have the odd shower here and there. The skies will have some hazy sunshine but they will generally be on the cloudy side. However, the force 5-6 S’ly winds will bring very mild air to the islands, so the max temps should be tickling the low teens by the end of the week, and the overnight min temps probably won’t be any lower than 9°C.

Surf and the Water

More pristine clean surf, and the great news is that it will be getting bigger day by day, increasing from 3-4 feet on Wednesday to 6+ feet by Friday. The windsurfing conditions will also be good. As for the swimming conditions, you will really want to go for the high tide, when the sea walls will offer a little bit of shelter from the fresh to strong winds. Those high tides will be in the late mornings… 7.6m on Wednesday, 6.9m on Thursday and 6.4m on Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
