Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 10/03/2022

Thursday

Weather

Overall, the day will be cloudy. However, it will occasionally thicken up to become a bit misty and drizzly, and it will occasionally become thin enough to allow a little brightness. Best of all, the wind will be nice and light (mainly SE’ly), so the 11°C max will actually feel a bit warmer than the previous day’s 12°C max.

Surf and the Water

A full day of clean 3-5 foot surf at the favourite west-coast locations. Great swimming conditions out west as well, but obviously not in those areas that are particularly exposed to the waves L’Ancresse will also be a great option for swimmers, especially around 11am, when the tide will peak at around 6.9m.

Friday

Weather

The wind will be a strong force 6 S’ly in the morning, relaxing to a fresh force 5 in the afternoon. As for the weather; the morning is looking cloudy with a spell of rain (perhaps heavy for a time) and then the afternoon is looking partly sunny, with just the odd shower now and then. If you do get caught by one of those showers then it will certainly be brief, but you’re definitely going to know about it, as they could be heavy enough to turn thundery. Max temp 12°C, and feeling nicest in sheltered western nooks, such as around Pleinmont and Richmond.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be gorgeously clean again, increasing from 3-4 feet in the morning to 6+ feet in the afternoon. Obviously there are still some very sheltered nooks out west, but with that increasing swell, I think that L’Ancresse will generally be the best place for swimmers to head. High water will just be a tiny 6.4m at 11:51am.

The Weekend

Weather

There might just be a shower or two around dawn, but the rest of Saturday is looking super-sunny, until cloud spreads in mid-afternoon, ahead of some showery weather fronts that will sweep through overnight and on Sunday morning. We should then return to sunshine on Sunday afternoon, and it might be a bit more enjoyable because the wind won’t be so strong at that time, (S’ly winds both days, fresh force 5 increasing to strong force 7 through Saturday, then gradually relaxing to moderate force 4 by the end of Sunday. Max temps 11-12°C on Saturday, then 10-11°C on Sunday.

Surf and the Water

Really big surf on Saturday (8-10 feet and very powerful), so maybe head to the north coast for something more manageable. Then, on Sunday, the waves will be slightly smaller (around 6 feet) but still very impressive. Both days beautifully clean and well-formed (pretty good for windsurfers too). The tidal range will remain tiny on both days, with low water around breakfast time and just the hint of a high in the early afternoon.

Next Week

Weather

Monday is a tricky one, because there is a soggy weather system that is either going to bring us rain through much of the day, or it is possibly going to reserve that rain for France and the eastern half of the Channel. For now, it’s probably wise to prepare for a wet one, but there’s a good chance of an improvement on one of the next updates. The rest of the week then looks dry and sunny, apart from the chance of some brief rain on Wednesday. As for the winds, we will probably have a fresh SE’ly on Monday, followed by light to moderate NE’ly breezes through the rest of the week.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 3-4 foot waves look likely on Monday, but the rest of the week will probably be slightly smaller and certainly more choppy. Swimmers will find the smoothest water along the west coast on Monday, followed by the south coast through the rest of the week. The tidal range will be very small on Monday, with a late afternoon high of just 7.1m. Then, through the rest of the week, the tidal range will get much larger day-by-day until we have a high of roughly 9m shortly after dawn and dusk.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
