Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 12/03/2022

Saturday

Weather

Dry bright and breezy (S’ly force 4 to 5). During the afternoon, the cloud will become thicker and we will gradually lose that brightness, but it we won’t actually get any rain until dusk or perhaps even later. Then through the night, rain will be on and off, but the S’ly wind will be more consistent, having increased to a strong force 6. Max temp 11°C, min temp 7-8°C.

Surf and the Water

Massive west-coast surf. It started absolutely thumping in on Friday and maintained much of its size through the night. Should be a good north-coast day for surfing, unless you are very experienced and suitably fearless for the west coast. Tiny tides, with only 2.2m difference between the dawn low and the lunchtime high.

Sunday

Weather

No real difference from Saturday in terms of temperatures (max 11°C, min 7-8°C). It’s just that the sunshine will come in brief spells and cloud will tend to be the dominant feature. There will be a scattering of heavy showers in the Channel but most of them will stay to the north and the west of us. However there will be an increasing risk of getting clobbered by one or two of them as we head through the afternoon and evening. As for the wind, well that will gradually become more comfortable as the day progresses, decreasing from a fresh and gusty S’ly early morning, to a moderate or light WSW’ly by late afternoon.

Surf and the Water

More huge clean surf, but this time the west-coast won’t be quite so off the scale (6-8 feet). The north coast will probably still be rideable but much smaller than on Saturday, making it a great choice for swimmers on this occasion. Another tiny tidal range, this time with 2.4m difference between the breakfast-time low and the mid-afternoon high.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

The whole week is looking dry and settled, with only the slimmest chance of a light shower during a couple of the cloudier episodes. These two days will be different from the latter part of the week, because they will have a light SE’ly breeze, and this is going to waft warmer air over the islands, taking our temperature in an upward direction (12°C for the Monday max, then 13°C for Tuesday). Cloud will come and go but there will certainly be lots of brightness and sunshine to enjoy, it might even put a bit of colour in your cheeks, now that the UV index is able to reach 3 with a bit of midday brightness.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean fun-size west-coast surf (3-5 feet). Good swimming conditions out west too, but obviously this is in bays that are more protected from the swell. The tides will be getting bigger each day, with lows in the late mornings and highs in the late afternoons (roughly 7m on Monday and 7.6m on Tuesday).

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

This part of the week will see a change of airflow form a light E’ly on Wednesday to a moderate NE’ly on Thursday and Friday. This will take our temperatures on a gradual downward slide (13°C for Wednesday’s max, 12°C for Thursday and 11°C for Friday). The weather, however, will be much the same as on Monday and Tuesday, with dryness dominating, along with an alternating sequence of cloudy skies and bright or sunny spells.

Surf and the Water

Wednesday will offer the cleanest surf of these three days (5-6 feet with quite a lot more power than the previous two days), then Thursday and Friday will gradually become smaller and weaker, and also a bit more choppy on the west coast. The best places to go swimming will probably be along the south coast, especially as the tides will be getting big again, with highs at the beginning and end of each day, and some very low lows at lunchtime.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
