Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 14/03/2022

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

There’s a slim chance of a little rain in the night time and the early mornings, but even that is more likely to stay over Normandy. Daylight hours are certainly looking dry, with plenty of sunshine in between the odd cloudy spell. Monday will have a moderate force 4 SE’ly breeze in the morning and then a light force 2 to 3 E’ly in the afternoon. This will lead to a very comfortable top temp of 12°C, with the west coast feeling particularly nice. Tuesday’s airflow will revert to a SE’ly direction but it will stay really light, so we temperatures should easily climb to 13°C or maybe even 14°C.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean fun-size west-coast surf (3-4 feet). Good swimming conditions out west too, but obviously this is in bays that are more protected from the swell. The tides will be getting bigger each day, with lows in the late mornings and highs in the late afternoons (roughly 7m on Monday and 7.6m on Tuesday).

Wednesday

Weather

This is the day that’s most likely to bring persistent rain this week. However, even this is uncertain… Yes there will be a weather-front that will spend the day moving very slowly over the islands, but it’s likely to be very weak, so it might prove to simply be cloudy, with a brief spell of drizzle and mist. Either way, we are looking at very little wind all day, so the 11°C max temp should feel quite comfortable. That gentle breeze initially coming from a S’ly direction, then finishing the day as a slightly stronger N’ly.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be cleanest in the morning, but the afternoon wind-change won’t mess thing up too badly. As for the size of the waves, it looks as though we are in for another pulse of the big stuff, with the west coast picking up to about 8 feet through the day, and a good chance of finding some decent 3 foot waves on both the south and the north coast too. Low tide will be at 11:53am and high tide will be at 5:54pm (roughly 8.2m).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

These days are looking dry and mostly sunny, but we will have a rather chilly wind to keep things on an even keel… a moderate NNE’ly on Thursday, veering to a fresh ENE’ly on Friday. Max temps will be a bit lower than on the previous days (11°C each day), but the sheltered south coast should feel pleasant throughout.

Surf and the Water

Thursday’s surf should still be large enough to offer some waves along the south-coast, where the offshore wind will keep it clean. Friday’s waves will be smaller, but that’s ok because the wind will be more favourable for the main west-coast spots (3-4 feet and clean there). Some fairly big tidal movements on these two days, with lows at lunch time and highs around dawn and dusk (roughly 8.6m on Thursday and 9m on Friday).

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday will be very similar to Friday, with a good amount of sunshine and an ENE’ly wind. However, that wind will be lighter, so we should creep up to 12°C and it will feel much more comfortable and spring-like. Sunday should then continue on the upward trajectory, as we hang on to the dryness and sunshine, but bring in slightly milder air on an ESE’ly breeze, hopefully giving us a max of 13°C. (both days feeling nicest in southwestern parts of the island).

Surf and the Water

The surf will be on the shrink but it will be increasingly clean (2-3 feet on Saturday, then 1-2 feet on Sunday). The swimming conditions will generally be nicest early and late, because that’s when the tide will be highest and the sea-walls will offer maximum shelter and smoothness. (Big tides, with highs of 9.3m on Saturday and 9.4m on Sunday).

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
