Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 17/03/2022

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Both days are looking dry and sunny, pretty much cloudless, so there will be some beautifully starry night skies too. Thursday will have fairly cool air over the islands, but it should feel nice and comfortable because the NW’ly breeze will only be light force 2-3… max temp 11°C, min temp 4-5°C (with a ground frost). Friday will have slightly milder air over the islands, but there will be a strengthening E’ly wind (force 4-5) so it won’t feel quite so comfortable… max temp 12°C, min temp 6-7°C.

Surf and the Water

Thursday’s surf should still be large enough for some rideable waves along the south-coast (1-2 feet there), however the west-coast shouldn’t be too messy, because the onshore wind will only be light there (4-6 feet there). Friday’s waves will be slightly smaller, but that’s ok because the wind will be perfectly offshore at the main west-coast spots (3-5 feet). Some fairly big tidal movements on both days, with lows at lunch time and highs around dawn and dusk (roughly 8.6m on Thursday and 9m on Friday).

The Weekend

Weather

Another couple of super sunny days, virtually cloudless on Saturday, but with wispy high cloud on Sunday (look out for pretty halos and sun-dogs). It won’t feel too toasty though, because we will hang on to that fresh E’ly wind, so the temperature isn’t going to change much from Friday (12-13°C for the daily maxima and 6-7°C for the nightly minima). The most comfortable places to go for a walk will probably be along the west coast (using the sea-walls as windbreaks) or on the south coast, along the cliff path from Petit Port to the Pea Stacks.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be on the shrink but it will be gorgeously clean (2-3 feet on Saturday, then 1-2 feet on Sunday). The swimming conditions will generally be nicest early and late, because that’s when the tide will be highest and the sea-walls will offer maximum shelter and smoothness. (Big tides, with highs of roughly 9.3m on Saturday and 9.4m on Sunday).

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

These two days will be a brief interlude in the virtually floorless fine weather. There should still be some sunny spells and it should be nice and mild (13-14°C for the most likely daily maxima), but there will be quite a lot of cloud at times and a few heavy showers, especially on Monday, and there’s a distinct possibility of some thunder and lightning. As for the winds, they will be moderate SE’ly, so the north and west coasts will generally be the most comfortable areas to hang out.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be as clean as you can imagine but it will be very small for the most part, just 1-2 feet, until a new 3-4 foot swell kicks in towards dusk on Tuesday. Swimming conditions will be nicest in the north and the west. The tidal movements will be large, with highs at breakfast time and lows in the mid-afternoons.

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

And it looks as though we will be back to copious spring sunshine, with E’ly breezes bringing nothing but dry weather. Temperatures will probably creep up by half a degree per day, such that we should reach between 15 and 16°C by Friday.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be beautifully clean throughout… 4-5 feet on Wednesday, dropping off to 3 feet on Thursday, then 2 feet on Friday. The best swimming will be out west too, especially in the mornings when the tides will be high (roughly 8.6m on Wednesday, 7.9m on Thursday and 7.2m on Friday).

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
