Saturday
Weather
Just as sunny as Friday, but with the wind decreasing through the day rather than increasing, it should be about a degree warmer. Those winds E’ly force 4-5, steadily dropping off to force 3-4, and that temperature peaking at around 13°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 3 feet at dawn, dropping off to 1-2 feet by dusk… clean as a whistle throughout. The swimming conditions will be best out west in the late afternoon, when the tide is relatively high and the wind relatively light. Those high tides, roughly 9.2m at 7:21am and 9.1m at 7:43pm.
Sunday (Vernal Equinox at 3:33pm)
Weather
Still sunny in the morning, but then a weak weather front will bring quite a lot of cloud in the afternoon. Previous worries about rain have almost entirely gone away now, but the cloud will have a bit of a cooling effect, so we will struggle to exceed 11°C on this occasion. That said, with just a light force 3 E’ly breeze for the majority of the day, it is going to feel really comfortable and pleasant, especially along the west coast.
Surf and the Water
A new swell building through the day, 2 feet gradually building to 4 feet, and once again, clean as a whistle at all the favourite west-coast spots. Big tides again, with highs of roughly 9.3m at 7:46am and 9.1m at 8:16pm.
Monday to Wednesday
Weather
These days will be cloudy at times but still with plenty of sunshine. As the various computer models have updated, Monday has consistently had the suggestion of showers, but they are always a bit of a hit-and-miss affair, so there’s a good chance that we will stay dry again. As for the winds, they will be force 3-4 SE’ly, which is a good recipe for rising temperatures, so we shall probably see maxima of 13°C, 14°C and 15°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be as clean as you can imagine, gradually picking up from 2 feet on Monday to 4 feet by Wednesday. Swimming conditions will be nicest in the north and the west, but the tidal movements will be large, so you will have to work around high highs at breakfast time and low lows in the mid-afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
And it looks as though we will be back to unadulterated spring sunshine, with moderate E’ly winds bringing nothing but dry weather. Temperatures will probably creep up by half a degree per day, such that we should reach between 15°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be beautifully clean throughout… 2-3 feet on Thursday, then 1-2 feet on Friday. Once again, the best swimming will be out west too, especially in the mornings when the tides will be high (7.9m on Thursday and 7.2m on Friday).
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
