Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 24/03/2022

Thursday and Friday

Weather

With so few features to differentiate one day from the next. This will be a fairly brief and repetitive forecast. So, to finish the working week we have two more sunny days and starry nights. The high-pressure system that is responsible for this dry perfection will move much closer to home though. The effect of this is that the wind will be much gentler and therefore more comfortable, because thus far it’s generally been a bit fresh and perky for any early-season sunbathing. Thursday’s wind will just be a light force 2 ENE’ly, then Friday’s will be a force 3-4 from the same direction. Both day’s lovely and mild/warm… 15-16°C for the max on Thursday, then about 14°C for Friday.

Surf and the Water

Thursday’s surf will be a gradual come-down from the dizzy excellence of Tuesday and Wednesday. The lovely clean waves will be 3 feet as the tide pushes towards it’s late morning high (roughly 7.9m). Then they will be about 2 feet through the rest of the day and only 1-2 feet and a little bit choppy through Friday. Friday’s tides, much smaller, with a high of only 7.2m in the late morning.

The Weekend

Weather

No change in the virtually cloudless skies. Some slightly cooler air will waft over the islands though. Saturday will probably only peak at 13°C, with the slight chill of a moderate force 4 NE’ly wind. Sunday’s top temperature will probably be the same, but with the NE’ly breeze falling light force 2-3, this is the day that will probably feel more gorgeous. Both days will be warmest along the south coast, but the tides will be high around lunchtime/early afternoon, so the beaches won’t offer very much sand to play on.

Surf and the Water

Very small tides, with just the hint of a high at lunchtime on Saturday, then jumping right ahead to the mid-afternoon on Sunday (due to the clock-change). Saturday’s surf is going to be tiny and not very clean, so it’s really going to be a day for south-coast swimming. Sunday’s surf should be about 2 feet and slightly cleaner, due to a reduction in the strength of the cross-shore wind.

Next Week

Weather

Monday will probably be just as lovely as Sunday, but we will then be in for a cooler week, as the NE’ly wind switches up a gear… moderate force 4 to fresh force 5. Daily max temperatures will generally be 11-12°C or perhaps less on the cloudier days. As for rainfall, we will probably won’t see any of that until Friday, but that’s a long way off, so don’t be too surprised if the story changes a little before then.

Surf and the Water

The run of epic surf looks likely to be over, as Monday to Wednesday will only have 1-foot waves at best, then Thursday and Friday are only promising a slight jump to 2 feet if we are lucky. The south coast will remain good for swimming for most of the week though, perhaps switching to the other coast on Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
