Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 02/04/2022

Saturday

Weather

Much like Friday, there will be showers in the area, probably with some hail or sleet in the mix. However, they will be pretty few and far between, so there’s a good chance that they will either miss the islands or just briefly brush against the edges. Those showers, and any associated cloudy spells, will be most likely in the morning, but the afternoon is really looking like straight-forward sunshine. Max temp only 8°C but the wind will be much lighter than the last couple of days (just a force 2-3 NE’ly), so it will probably feel a bit warmer than that, especially down on the south-coast cliff-paths and beaches.

Surf and the Water

The west coast surf will be virtually flat, with only a few 1-foot kiddy waves at best. The swimming and paddle-boarding conditions will be lovely though, and even nicer down on the south coast. High tide will be about 9.5m at 8:19am and 9.4m at 8:38pm. Low tide will be in the early afternoon.

Sunday

Weather

Pretty much the same as on Saturday, but with even sunnier skies and an even lower risk of a shower. The wind will be just as light, perhaps even lighter, but it will back to a NW’ly direction in the afternoon, so it will probably feel a bit nicer along the east coast then. Max temp probably a degree higher… 9°C but still generally feeling warmest down on the south coast cliff-paths and beaches.

Surf and the Water

Cleanish 1-foot waves on the west-coast again. However, there’s just a chance of a few 2-footers rolling in towards evening. Otherwise, once again, the main event will be swimming and paddling along the south coast, or may be along the east coast in the afternoon and evening. High tide will be about 9.4m at 8:54am and 9.2m at 9:08pm. Low tide will be in the early afternoon.

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

Weather-wise we are looking at occasional rain on Monday morning and through most of Wednesday. However, Monday afternoon and all of Tuesday are looking dry will partial sunshine. Winds will be fresh force 5 WNW’ly on Monday and Tuesday, then strong force 6 WSW’ly on Wednesday. Those winds will feel a bit chilly due to their strength, but the max temperature will actually return to double figures as early as Monday… peaking at 10°C, rising further to 11°C on Tuesday and then 12°C on Wednesday (possibly a degree warmer in Town every day).

Surf and the Water

The east coast will be the place for swimmers to go every day. Over on the west coast, the windsurfing and kite-surfing will be good. As for the surf, probably 2-3 feet and very choppy Monday and Tuesday, picking up to 4-5 feet and becoming slightly cleaner on Wednesday. Tides gradually shrinking… 9.2m for Monday’s breakfast-time high, dropping to 8.2m for Wednesday’s late-morning high.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

A couple of very wet days, as a slow-moving weather-front will be parked over the Channel for the majority of the time. The rain will come and go – it won’t be with us for the whole time – but there will certainly be some rather persistent and heavy spells, probably adding up to 20+mm by the end of Friday (that means plenty of pretty large puddles). Winds will be strong force 6 WSW’ly on Thursday (just like Wednesday), staying strong but backing SW’ly on Friday. This wind-direction means that the air will be mild and moist, so the cloud will be low (perhaps misty on hills) and the temperature will be probably hover around 12-13°C throughout.

Surf and the Water

The east coast will be the place for swimmers to go at most times, although the north coast will be ok in the late mornings when the tide is high (7.6m and 7m respectively). Over on the west coast, the windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions will be excellent, and the surf will be pretty good as well, probably around 6 feet and fairly clean.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
