Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 04/04/2022

Monday

Weather

The wind will be W’ly for the first time in a while, and this means that we will be importing milder moister air as the day progresses, such that the recent icy NE’ly will soon be a mere memory. The morning will be increasingly cloudy, with just the odd spit of light rain here and there. The afternoon however, that’s when the temperature going to climb back into double figures, and that’s when some more persistent drizzle will set in. The cloud will also be lowering, so there’s a high chance of some mist or fog on the higher parts of the islands, especially in the evening. Max temp 11°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be messy all day, but it might be slightly cleaner in the evening due to a slight reduction in the onshore wind. Furthermore, the waves will have increased from 2 feet to 3-4 feet by then, so it could be worth a bit of a bash if you’re feeling desperate after the near-flat weekend. As for the swimmers, the east coast will certainly be the best area for you. High water will be 9.2m at 9:24am and low water will be 1.3m at 3:54pm.

Tuesday

Weather

A slight nudge of the wind, to a WNW’ly direction, will be just enough to bring slightly drier air to the islands. The max temp will only be a little higher (12°C), and the wind strength much the same (force 4-5), so the general feel of the air won’t be much different to Monday, but the dry weather and the occasional patch of blue-sky and brightness should certainly lift our spirits a little bit.

Surf and the Water

Choppy west-coast surf all day (2-3 feet, or perhaps 4 feet in the evening). The swimming conditions will be best along the east coast again, especially in the morning and the evening. High tide will be 8.7m at 9:52am and low tide will be 1.9m at 4:09pm.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

It’s not going to be cold, we are still expecting daily max temps of around 12°C. However, this is going to be the wettest half of the week, with rainfall totals increasing each day… 3-4mm on Wednesday, 5-6mm on Thursday and 8-10mm on Friday. Wednesday’s rain will be rather light and patchy, but Thursday and Friday are likely to see some spells of both heavier and more persistent rain. The wind will be strong for much of the time too… force 5-6 WSW’ly on Wednesday and Thursday, possibly falling light and variable for a brief time on Friday, before a force 5-6 NW’ly takes us into the weekend.

Surf and the Water

Some pretty solid surf every day, never dropping below 5 feet, possibly picking up to as much as 8 feet for a time. The waves will be rather choppy for much of the time, but there should certainly be the odd clean session available if you keep a sharp eye on the situation. Smaller tides every day, with highs of 8.3m at 10:19am on Wednesday, 7.7m at 10:47am on Thursday and 7.2m at 11:20am on Friday.

The Weekend

Weather

I’m not sure how much we can trust the computer models to accurately predict the far end of the forecast in this generally changeable weather pattern that we have at the moment. However, their current prediction is for a very well-timed oasis of finer weather for the weekend. Saturday, mostly sunny with an ever-decreasing NW’ly breeze (max temp around 11-12°C), then Sunday perhaps a bit cloudier but with warmer air blowing in on a moderate SE’ly breeze (max temp around 13-14°C).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will probably be 3 feet and rather choppy on Saturday, then hopefully 4-5 feet and super-clean on Sunday. Tiny tidal movements too, with lunchtime highs of just 6.5m on Saturday and just 6m on Sunday.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
