Easter Sunday
Weather
A slightly stiffer SE’ly breeze (force 3-4 in the morning, force 2-3 in the afternoon) will bring more fine and dry conditions to the islands. There will be a fair bit of high cirrus cloud in the sky. This will bless us with a particularly beautiful sunrise and sunset, and it will also make the midday sunshine a little hazy and milky compared to Saturday. Max temps, just a tad lower, but still lovely… 17°C.
Surf and the Water.
The west-coast surf will be about the same size and power as on Saturday afternoon, but probably a shade cleaner, given that the breeze will be SE’ly rather than NE’ly. Swimmers will also find the loveliest conditions along the west coast (and the north coast too). Very big tides again, with highs of roughly 9.4m at breakfast time and dusk.
Bank Holiday Monday
Weather
Another fine and dry day, with high cloud and hazy sunshine but this time there will be a reversal of direction for the force 2-3 wind, to a much cooler NW’ly. This means that most areas will peak at a mere 13-14°C, but Town and some southeastern beaches (such as Fermain and Moulin Huet) ought to sneak up to 15°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be a little bit choppy and sloppy, but it won’t be too bad because the onshore wind will only be light. The south and east coasts will be lovely for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. The tides will be even bigger on this day, with a high of 9.5m at breakfast time and a low of 0.7m in the mid-afternoon.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
These two days will be super-sunny but the N’ly wind (force 3 on Tuesday and force 4 on Wednesday) will bring some chilly air to the islands, so the temperature of the air will only sneak marginally higher than the temperature of the sea (11-12°C for the max). The best way to escape the chill, will be to head to the gorgeous south coast, especially during the afternoons, when the sun will be high and the tide will be low.
Surf and the Water
The onshore wind will be lightest and the waves will be largest on Tuesday (2-3 feet) so this could still be a fun day for surfers. Wednesday looks like a bit of a write-off though, with nothing better than 1-2 foot chop on offer. Both days great for south-coast swimming though. The tides will still be very large but they will begin to shrink a little, with mid-morning highs of 9.5m on Tuesday and 9.2m on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
These days will see a return to E’ly breezes rather than the chilly N’ly. However, it won’t be as balmy and perfect as the E’ly flow of the Easter weekend. This time we will be on the northern flank of a French low-pressure system. It will be a very shallow low, so it won’t have strong winds associated with it, but there will be some pretty hefty showers and we will probably catch a few of them. However, there will be a good amount of sunshine between the showers, and we can probably expect temperatures to peak at a comfortable 14°C each day.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean waves on both days, tiny 1-2 footers for kids and longboarders on Thursday, then some 3-5 foot juice for shortboarders on Friday. Thursday’s high tide will be 8.6m around 10:30am, then Friday’s will be 8m around 11:20am.
The next forecast update will be on Bank Holiday Monday…
