Guernsey Weather Fox

6-day Forecast. Starting Tuesday 19/04/2022

Tuesday

Weather

As Monday was cooler than Sunday, so too will Tuesday be a shade cooler than Monday. Lovely weather though. A few cloudy spells in an otherwise sunny morning, then nothing but sunshine in the afternoon. Because of that cool air, the majority of the island will only get up to 12°C for the max. However, the south coast beaches will be nicely sheltered from the force 3-4 NNW’ly breeze, so we could get up to 13 or even 14°C down there.

Surf and the Water

Tuesday’s surf will be even weaker and sloppier than Monday’s, but it will still be rideable, so plenty of fun to be had by kids on their hols. The south and east coast beaches will be your best bet for swimming or paddle-boarding. The tidal range still pretty massive, with a high of roughly 9.5m at 9:10am and a low of roughly 1m at 3:30pm.

Wednesday

Weather

A couple of very minor differences from Tuesday. There will be a lot of wispy high-cloud in the sky, so it won’t be particularly blue and the sunshine will be more hazy and milky. The breeze will be a force 3-4 NNE’ly, so once again, it will be a great idea to find some shelter down on the south coast… The max temp probably 15°C down there, whilst everywhere else peaks at 13-14°C.

Surf and the Water

The east coast won’t be so great for swimming and paddle-boarding any more, but the south coast will still be gorgeously smooth. Over on the west coast, the surf will be sloppy but rideable again, perfect for keen youngsters, but don’t forget to slap some sun-cream on those faces. The tidal range still large but smaller than the previous days, with a high of roughly 9.2m at 9:48am and a low of roughly 1.4m at 4:06pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Mixed cloud and sunshine, probably leaning more towards the sunshine. The main trends through these two days will be a strengthening of the wind and an increasing risk of showers. Thursday’s winds will be force 3-4 ENE’ly and Friday’s winds, still ENE’ly, will be force 4-5. With that wind direction, the highest temperatures 14-15°C will be in the southwestern parishes. As for those showers, they will become increasingly heavy and frequent over France, as a low-pressure system develops over Biscay. By Friday evening, these showers will likely have merged into bands of more persistent rain, which will circulate around the low, so that’s when we are most likely to get a good old soaking.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be much cleaner than the previous days, but they will be absolutely miniscule on Thursday (1 foot at best). Friday will bounce back with vigour though, with the arrival of a thumping 4-5 foot swell. Smaller tides again, with highs of 8.6m on Thursday (10:29am) and then 7.9m on Friday (11:17am).

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday, just like Friday, will have a moderate to fresh ENE’ly wind, bringing sunny intervals and the likelihood of a few heavy showers or perhaps some longer spells of rain. On Sunday, the wind will back to a gentler N’ly in the morning and then a NW’ly in the afternoon. This will be due to that low pressure system, previously over Biscay, moving across France and into Belgium. As this happens, it’s uncertain, whether a weather-front will pivot right over the top of us, or over some point further east. This means that it could either be bone dry or sopping wet, we are just going to have to wait until a bit nearer the time to be sure. Either way, temperatures are likely to peak in the mid-teens, either bang-on or just a smidge above the late-April average.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be 3 feet and clean on Saturday, then tiny and choppy on Sunday; so surfing should be the main event on Saturday (high tide will be roughly 7.3m just after midday); then it will be all about the swimming on Sunday, especially along the south and east coasts, maybe try Bordeaux around lunchtime (high tide will be roughly 7m at 1:52pm).

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday or Thursday…
