Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 21/04/2022

Thursday

Weather

The warmest day of the week, with a top temp of 16-17°C. It will become increasingly windy though, with the ENE’ly wind increasing from force 3-4 in the morning to force 4-5 in the afternoon and perhaps occasionally strong force 6 during the night. The weather will be very straight forward because the only cloud we are expecting is some occasional high cloud, coming and going, making the sunshine alternate between hazy and bright. Max UV index 5, so don’t forget your sun cream.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be very clean but also very small. At 1-2 feet in the morning and probably smaller in the afternoon, it will really be the domain of kids and longboarders and it will obviously be best to get in early. If you are swimming then the west coast will also be best, but it would be a good idea to aim for high tide (roughly 8.6m at 10:30am), in order to get the best shelter from the strengthening breeze.

Friday

Weather

A couple of degrees cooler than Thursday and just as windy. This time the wind will be a bit more of a direct NE’ly, so the south coast will be the only one where you will be able to find a little shelter from it. As for the weather… dry again, perhaps a little cloudier than Thursday, but still with plenty of decent sunny spells.

Surf and the Water

Solid 4-5 foot surf (perhaps briefly 6 feet in the morning). Once again, swimmers should focus on the high tide to get a little shelter from the wind. That’s if you’re out west. However, some south coast spots, such as Petit Port, will be good on the lower tides too.

The Weekend

Weather

A little give and take, as we move from Saturday to Sunday. Both days will have a mixture of cloud and sunshine in the sky. Saturday will have a few heavy showers in the area. The showers will be a bit hit and miss, so it’s very uncertain when the first one is likely to catch the islands. In the morning, I’d say there’s a 20% chance of a soaking, going up to a 50% in the afternoon, then 70% overnight, dropping back to less than 10% on Sunday morning. Saturday will have a fresh force 5 NE’ly wind and relatively warm air (top temps 14-15°C). Sunday’s wind (still NE’ly) will ease back to moderate force 4 but the air will be a bit cooler (top temps 13-14°C).

Surf and the Water

There will be a steady decline in the wave heights, from 3-4 feet around dawn on Saturday to totally flat by dusk on Sunday. Once again, swimmers should either head to the south cost or focus on the high tides (lunchtime) if they are heading to the west coast.

Next Week

Weather

For the most part, we will hang on to this dry and partly sunny NE’ly airflow, not quite as strong as the previous days… moderate force 4. Tuesday and Wednesday will deviate slightly from that regime, with the breeze veering to a light force 3 E’ly. On those two days, we will probably peak at a pleasant 15°C, but the other days probably won’t rise any higher than 13 or 14°C. There is a hint of the odd shower at times, but to be honest, they are so few and far between, that the greatest likelihood is that they will miss us all together.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be flat, but there will be plenty of good swimming/paddle-boarding opportunities on the west and south coasts. Tides will be low in the mornings and high in the afternoons… medium-small in the first half of the week, picking up to medium-large in the second half.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday morning…
