Guernsey Weather Fox

Six day Guernsey weather forecast for 26 April 2022

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Staying dry with copious bright sunshine on Tuesday and then just partial sunshine on Wednesday (mainly in the morning). Tuesday will also have slightly lighter winds (force 3-4 E’ly as opposed to Wednesday’s force 4-5 NE’ly) so this will lead to a degree of extra heat on Tuesday (max temp 13-14°C) and a generally more comfortable feeling than on Wednesday.

Surf and the Water

More flat surf but smooth water for swimmers. The south coast has been the go-to area over the last few days and indeed it will be again on Wednesday. However, the west coast should be a bit smoother on Tuesday, so that will offer lots more options. High water will be roughly 7.4m at 4:40pm on Tuesday, then on Wednesday it will be roughly 8.8m at 5:30pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The strongest winds will have been on Wednesday night but they might linger into Thursday morning. They will blow from a NE’ly direction… strong F6 first thing on Thursday, dropping off to force 3-4 by Thursday night and then light force 2 by Friday afternoon. The weather will probably be just the same as the previous days (that’s about a 70/30 ratio of sunshine to cloud), most likely dry but with a slim chance of the odd brief shower, forming in the Dover Strait and then wandering over the islands, to give a light sprinkling before finally dying out. Daily max temps 13-14°C, nightly min temps 7-8°C.

Surf and the Water

If it’s possible for the surf to get any flatter then this is when it’s going to happen. By the end of this week, the clarity of the water will probably be incredible. That said, the wind will still make many areas less than comfortable for swimmers, so the sheltered south coast will really be the best option. I’ve only recently discovered that the Petit Port steps have been closed for a while. However, that will really be the cream of the crop, if you fancy wandering that way from Moulin Huet, or maybe going there by boat or paddle-board. Jaonnet Bay should also be a winner, due to some fairly low tides (Thursday’s will be roughly 1.6m soon after midday, and Friday’s will be roughly 1.3m at 1pm).

The Weekend

Weather

It’s just more of the same I’m afraid. Sorry if it’s getting boring but at least it makes it easy to plan your outdoor events… NE’ly winds bringing a mixture of cloud and sunshine. Most likely dry as a bone, but with the slim possibility of catching a brief rogue shower. In the unlikely event of such a shower then it really wouldn’t provide our fields and gardens with much of a drink, in fact it wouldn’t even be worthy of unpegging the washing. Daily max temps 12-13°C, nightly min temps 7-8°C.

Surf and the Water

Surfers, it’s looking like the flat spell will come to an end, with Saturday’s waves gradually increasing to 2 feet and then Sunday’s probably holding around 3 feet. The tidal range will be large though, so the opportunities will be tight, not to mention the fact that the NE’ly wind will make it choppy and lumpy anyway.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday evening…
